On Sunday Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware sacked Texans quarterback Matt Schaub three times. Today Ware was named NFC defensive player of the week.

It was the sixth three-sack game of Ware's career, and it's his fourth defensive player of the week award.

All three of Ware's sacks came on third down, and the Cowboys say he had three quarterback pressures in addition to his three sacks.

Ware now has 68.5 sacks in 83 career games

I'd say he is deserving of the award

I guess the sack that should have gone to Anthony Spencer helped. ;)

I like Ware...but, he can't hold a candle to Merriman.

If the Cowboys would have drafted Merriman(sp)...he would already have three sacks per game.

Jerry messed this one up...big time!

6 games of 3 sacks is pretty impressive. That has to be some kind of record.

I dunno -- I have a feeling Reggie White, Bruce Smith, Kevin Green, Ricky Jackson, etc might have also had their share of 3 sack games...

Having said that -- I can totally see Ware holding that record some day if he keep playing at a high level.

I'd love to see Ware break the single season sack record of 22 1/2. Here's hoping he gets 25.

He only gets sacks because he's constantly criticized by the realists on this board.

Ididn't realize Greg Ellis had 84 sacks.....

What's the prediction for Ware's sack total this year. I say 20 1/2.
Figure average 1 per game left. As he will have 2 or 3 more games of multiple sacks. And maybe a game or 2 without a sack.

He's now 69th on the all-time sack list (yes I know they didn't count these in the old days) and is moving up fast.

He has an excellent chance to crack the top 50 this year (he needs to get to 80, so he'd need to finish the season with 15.5.

He doesn't have much chance at the record, though. He's well behind Smith and White at the same age, and they both had long long careers. The third spot's well within reach for him (and for Freeney and Mathis).

He's way ahead of the pace to set the record for linebackers, though. Kevin Greene holds the record with 160, and Ware is 20 ahead of what Greene had at the same age.

True. That gap between 2 (White) and 3 (Greene) is pretty remarkable, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this generation of pass rushers to start filling it in.
