So here we are 7 games in after Mathews so called "arrival" as this premier pass rusher and what do you know

15 tackles, 3 sacks, and no int's or FF.

While Ware in 6 games has

20 tackles, 8 sacks, no int's, and 1 FF

A great scheme can make anyone look like a great player

A great player can be great in any scheme.

The debate over Ware/Merriman seems so ancient now, as this one will be as well.

Clay Matthews is a heck of a player.

But he's no DeMarcus Ware.

Oh look Mathews has as many sacks as Spencer. ;)

...and I still think that Anthony Spencer hits double digits before the end of season. :)

Anyone who's paid attention knows that Matthews is a great talent but Ware is elite.

Last year when Clay had 13.5 sacks, 6 came in the 1st 2 weeks of the season.

I'd imagine Clay has quite a few pressures this year but he's still feast or famine.

Going back to last year and counting the games this far, Clay has 10 games without a sack (6 in 2010, 4 this year)....regular season. In the same span, Ware has 6, 5 of which were during last year's wreck.

If Ware has the length of career that Bruce Smith (19 years) had, he'd break the all-time record. That's a BIG, BIG, BIG IF. Not many make it that long.

Just read the other day that Merriman went on the Bills' IR. My gosh, there haven't been that many players that have had such a meteoric rise and fall like that guy. I think he's done in the next year or two.

DeMarcus Ware is just a better football player. He is more athletically gifted and makes bigger plays at bigger moments in the game. I never understood why this was even a debate at all.

Ware has been a special player but it seems to me he looks even more lively this season operating in this defense of Ryan

Comparing any current player to ware is just stupid, he is to pass rushers what Tim Duncan is to power forwards, people always try to say someone else is better but they just end up looking stupid

Ware needs 113 sacks to break Smith's record of 200. Excluding his rookie year, Ware is averaging 14.5 sacks a year. At that pace, he'll break the record in his 14th season.

Not sure how this is any better than those that judged Ware based on one year, but Matthews is an elite pass rusher.

Ware is better, but Matthews has a superbowl ring and his team is currently undefeated so pardon me if I'm not quite ready to mock the dude.

How about rooting for a pair of Dallas outside linebackers being co leaders in sacks?:D

Mathews is not an elite pass rusher he is good pass rusher that plays in a system that puts him in favorable match ups or lets him have a free run at the QB.

Having a Superbowl ring has nothing to with the conversation, I don't know why you included that tidbit.

Just because your team won you a ring, and the offense scores more points than anyone every week doesn't make you elite. Mathews is not elite, there DC is elite. Elite players make plays game after game, season after season. Is he a good player? Probably. Elite? No, one good season dosen't make you elite.

Matthews is still pretty good but he is not as good as Ware.

I still think Matthews is on something: maybe HGH, maybe steroids or maybe both. He has that bodybuilder roid look about him.

I think that's a fair take on Matthews.
