Anybody know the best way to get rid of a wart? I've got a small one on my hand.

Cut them open and dig out the seed. That is if you are not a wimp!!!! ;)

I actually did that as a youth. However there are plenty of over the counter products that you can buy that will get rid of them.

You can get the old compound W route that uses drops over a period of time or the newer version that basically freezes them and is said to work after 1-2 applications.

Depends on how much tolerance for pain you've got.

A gauranteed method I've used is to take a razor (or clip it with a fingernail clipper) and cut it off flush with your skin. Then tape an unlit wooden match to yourself, so that the ignition end is laying on the wound. Strike another match and light the one taped to your wart. When the match flares up, the phosphorus will burn down into the wart's roots, burning them out. Hurts like a bastid, but gauranteed to work.

Or you can just buy an over the counter freezing agent like Paint said. :)

Never used the match method...never even heard of that one.

But as a youth, like I stated above, I would cut the wart off like you mentioned. Then I would use finger nail clippers to cut down into the open area until I found something that resembled a small seed. Once I got that out I did not get the wart back. However as you said...was painful.

I've never had a wart, but if I did I would definitely give this method a shot. :laugh2:

Depends on the wart type if you have what is called a planters wart it is actually a viral wart

If you are cutting it off a razor works best and hot soapy water

you spray hot soapy water then thinly slice the area like you are shaving meat it causes no pain that way

I used to get them on my elbows strangely enough. Compound W worked alright. It burned like a mofo though. Didn't like it.

I think they are on fire already without the match. Besides I am afraid of a leaking gas problem and putting a match to it might blow up the house like firing and law/bazooka from a helo like rambo. :p: :laugh2:

...follow the same development pattern. They grow on the surface of the epidermis. They will grow upward in a column form on the new top layer of skin unless pressure forces them back down.

The seed that BP is talking about is actually a clotted blood vessel and often looks like black dots. Removing those won't make a wart go away.

It's also an old wive's tale that the warts grow roots. The underside of a wart is actually smooth.

Warts come from the HPV virus so whatever method you are using what you want to do is soften or scape away old skin and apply your treatment to the affected area and get the wart reduced to a small enough size so your immune system can kill off the remaining wart.

I suggest salcylic acid gel (???) Not sure on spelling, but it will reduce the wart after repeated applications. Stay away from picking at it or matches.

My guess is it will be more painful or leave a scar. Funny thing is that many warts if left alone will go away eventually. No one knows why, but it has happened to me.

I did that in high school with a nasty wart I had on my left big toe. Man did it hurt to put pressure on that toe and football practice was 10X worse because of it.

I finally grabbed a sharp knife and dug it out. Had to go in DEEP too.

And yes, it went away and never came back. Even with a giant hole in my big toe it was less painful than the wart itself .
