I know he was good but that good? All the pressure is gone. Is it cause Ellis is gone?

He already has 3 sacks in Oakland this year. Im sure it is part of the reason.

I don't think so, we where getting a lot of pressure even when he was not in the game last season. I think Wade might be getting a little to predictable

Ellis was a good player, but this wasn't about him. This was about a pretty good team coming in with a scheme that double teamed Ware and capitalized on mistakes. There was pressure, but Manning was able to beat some of it. We lost to a good team.

I think he was important but he's gone. You look at what Dallas was able to do against the Giants last year as opposed to last night and I think you have to say that he was a big part of things. You look at him today in Oakland and he already has 3 sacks. Having said this, no sense in crying about it now. He's gone and we gotta play regardless of who is here and how is not.

DeMarcus WHERE, who doesn't know he's gone, is still hiding behind behind the Gatorade to get him some snaps.

(I kid.)

It's a really stupid move to cut a guy who has one year left on his contract who is one of only 2 proven pass rushers on your team, especially when your defense is supposed to be based around a pass rush.

Less is more.
Addition by subtraction.

His replacement, Anthony Spencer, is a step slower, not as quick and obviously not as experienced. He just can't seem to beat his man fast enough to get to the QB. This is not about the apparent greatness of Greg Ellis as much as the ineptness of one Anthony Spencer. At one point in the second half I was hoping he’d be replaced by Octavien, who’s a better player IMHO as off right now. Octavien actually reminds me of Harrison from the Steelers (built type and NFL path).

Before this thread gets out of hand, at this point last year, after two games...we had one sack. Demarcus Ware against Cleveland. Our D has started out slow for the past few years, seems like it takes a month for them to really get going.

I fully buy into that with guys like TO, Pacman, and Tank.

But Greg Ellis? Yeah he whined to the media, but every account I've heard is he was a great teammate who worked with his peers to make them better.

Doesn't sound like a bad guy to me.

Not true. Ware had a sack in every game except TB last year. I remember him chasing McNabb down on the sideline and getting a sack.

We had at least two, but the pressure that we had last year is more that we've had this year, its obvious to the eye.

I'm not worried about the pass rush after 2 games. If they can't get to Delhomme than maybe its time to worry. Ellis is 3rd in the league in sacks. The defense is a work in progress. It is new personnel. You can't keep overhauling this defense and expect for them to get chemistry. Scandrick missed about 6 tackles last night. He's a solid tackler. I don't know what was going on there.

Ellis was the heart of this D and a great pass rusher too
