No matter how "figured" out the rules are, there will always be "human error" and the refs will always make a mistake. The refs aren't watching the game from a TV set with camera angles. There on the field watching things coming at them at high speed. Refs have a split second to make a decison. Sometimes they make the wrong one and it costs a team an opportunity. But thats what you have to live with.

I never suggested otherwise. I was referring to the the constant changes they make every off-season, and the inevitable inconsistencies that come of them during the first few weeks of every year.

i think it's the NFL offices way of trying to minimize the refs errors. There attempts may be in vain, but you can never say they didn't try :laugh1:

I watched it a few times I don't think the ball ever touched the ground.

As far as Moss being down, I guess it depends on when they ruled that he actually had possession, and when the whistle was blown. It was a hard play to judge because it happened so fast.

When I saw it in review I thought the ball had hit the ground so it should have been incomplete. Reguardless, whenever the ref blows the whistle the play is done.

I did see the refs being very generous to the skins on many calls.

The ball clearly did not touch the ground.

And he definitely wasn't down by contact from the first defender touching him (as it wasn't officially a "Catch" yet), but I'm not sure if the second guy touched him or not.

I saw the ball hit the ground too.

It was right after it went off Webster and before it landed between Moss's legs.

Moss was not down on that play
ALSO
On the personal foul call on the Giants concerning Portis. Portis was laying on top of defenders his body did not touch the ground so the hits he received were while he was on top of a defender trying to get up and run.

So to me its a push. Skins got a break then had it taken from them. Such is the NFL

No, you didn't. You couldn't possibly see something that didn't happen. You might of THOUGHT you saw it, but replays clearly show that the ball did NOT hit the ground.

They showed 1 angle where it looked like the ball hit the ground...but they kept going back to a different angle after that.

I really think that the "face mask" call made by the refs that WAS NOT a face mask, thus giving the Commanders 15 yards and a first down, had that not happened I really doubt the Commanders even score in this game!

The guy grabbed the jersey and shoulder pad, not the face mask on the TD drive by the Commanders.

Again, the ball never hit the ground...

Perhaps HD TV shows it better than regular TV?

Because this case shows: 1.) how inept the officials are 2.) how terrible the commentators are.

Really, I think we need a clarification from the league on this. What was the original call on the field? Incomplete or down by contact? Why did the ref blow his whistle? Aren't they supposed to let the play develop and review later?

And Madden and Michaels suck, they didn't even raise the possibility that he might not have been down. Isn't that part of their job, to educate the viewers about the game? :(

You are correct it was not a face mask, He actually grabbed the jersery under the face mask. His had went right pass the mask to the jersey. You wont here the skins fans bringing that up

I had thought they actual face mask occured at the end of the run, but they didn't show that part of the replay. They only showed where the guy grabbed the jersey. Guess we'll never know.

It may have "Looked like" but it didn't hit the ground. Other replays showed as much.

Technical question from last night's game: On the play that ended the Skins first drive in the 2nd half, Moss caught the ball on the ground (behind the 1st down marker, which is where all Campbell's 3rd down passes seemed to go). He juggled it, caught it and got up and started running. The refs called him down, even though he was not touched by a Giants player after he gained possession of the ball. He was touched by a Giants player, which caused him to go to the ground initially, but he did not have possession of the ball at that point and in fact the ball fluttered up into the air before it came back down where Moss made the reception.

The refs called him down, although he got up and started running. Zorn didn't challenge it and neither Madden nor Michaels seemed to think anything was out of the ordinary. Was this the correct call?

no refs botched that one...moss should have scored! I found it funny that the skins made no protest. They even had to punt it back after that.

The refs blew it. He was not down. I did not see the ball hit the ground either. That should have been 6. Whistled too soon.

Bad Call.

Certainly not the reason the Commanders lost though. They deserved the loss.
