Was the 2024 season essentially a Jerry temper tantrum for the GB playoff loss?

It is still impossible for to decipher what 2024 was.
It feels like a senile, incompetent, petty tyrant decided to burn the boats to protect his " key business principles".
Namely that people perform best under pressure for their jobs and that the proper way to handle contracts is negotiate in the media and then hammer out a deal last second.
--both those philosophies are largely incorrect.
If my job was in serious jeopardy, I would be utilizing a ton of work time to find a new job.
And if my contract was about to be up, I'd sure be looking around for other offers.
Jerry's take is stupid in other words.

Could have moved DLaw and Zack Martin early in the year or pre-season for draft capital and just tanked.
At least then we'd have seen the vision.
I was out on the season because they had no plan whatsoever.
You have to at least give me enough to lie to myself.
They didn't even bother.
This was like Romo's "if this is the worst thing to ever happen to me" but in owner's form and repeated daily for 6 months.
Oooooooooooo, love that last sentence parallel!!!!!

So I wonder….When I look back on the disastrous 2024 season, and after some time to reflect, I’m starting to wonder - was this crazy off-season and season just an extended temper tantrum for Jerry Jones, upset by the worst playoff loss in team history last January to the packers? And instead of acting like a responsible, focused GM, did he just act like a spoiled child upset that his favorite toy disappointed him?

Instead of thinking clearly and decisively, Jerry appears to have just decided to make the 2024 season a kamikaze mission designed to express his frustration. Instead of getting past it by analyzing not only why it happened but what was needed to get better, it appears he may have just wanted to make everyone “uncomfortable” as he likes to call it.

Before anyone says, “That’s crazy Bob”, let me remind any Cowboys fan that Jerry Jones has thrown whole seasons away before. Like the 2000-02 seasons which were three straight 5-11 throwaways under Dave Campo. Or the decade long experiment with Jason Garrett getting us to the playoffs three times so we could win two wild card games.

Most GMs whose livelihood and reputations are on the line would never have taken the almost laughably bad road JJ took this year in the off-season. And despite the lies about the cap he and his #1 son have spewed, he actually had two sane choices:
  1. Deciding the Mike McCarthy experiment was done and the team needed a new direction AND infusion of talent. Mac is fired and a new leader is brought in and the reset button pushed.
  2. Or realizing that Big Mac was still the guy to lead us and is given an extension to try again. A few FAs signed, a great draft class - it was certainly possible.
Either approach could have been rational and measured. He chose neither. He chose to…well do what he did which was the worst off-season I’ve ever seen in my 5+ decades as a Cowboys fan. And as we stand today we are essentially worse off than when the GB loss ended last January. It’s a complete self inflicted mess.

Was the 2024 season just an extended temper tantrum by the only unaccountable GM in the NFL?
It was either that or jerry slipping enough to let Stephen do what he has always wanted to. Dont pay anyone and fill in with cheap contracts. AND HE STILL wants to get cheaper again this offseason! this may be Stephen's show 100% now and jerry just acts like he is in charge!

I think that is giving him too much credit. What you posed takes a lot of thought and planning…….things we rarely see from Jerry. I will stick with football incompetence with no discernible direction for the building of the roster. They have no idea what they are doing, there is three decades that prove it.
I agree. The Franchise lucked into 2 "decent" QB's b2b which put the team around the rim. And both are proving not good enough to get across the finish line given the GM's shoddy roster building and strange drafting habits.

3. Sabotage the team for this year to get Dak to accept a trade.
4. If Dak still won't bite, let Dak and McCarthy ride out their contracts, conserving resources for next year. If they deliver, pay them, if they don't, don't.

Looked to me like management sabotaged the team at RB and DT. So 3.
But no trade for Dak materialized, so 4.
And then the inexplicable extension for Dak, *after* having sabotaged this season.

Just makes no sense.
Given that it looks senseless to me, I've got no objections to the theory that Jerry just threw a fit.

Just the usual incompetence ...... nothing new
It's unusual incompetence for them.

Their usual m.o. was to fill all holes in free agency with credible bridge players - mediocre starters - and then draft an unencumbered board.

Instead, they did squat at DT in free agency and the draft. Same at RB.

Instead of credible bridge players, they brought in a few older players who were *done*. Warm bodies with names who had no future here or anywhere.

Bobby, I can't see JJ throwing away any seasons to make a point, BUT I could see both his dimwitted sons doing stupid stuff behind the scenes to make Pops look like he's losing it as the brilliant GM that he thinks he is.

Ah, but there's the catch. Jerry had no clue that he was throwing away a season. He's that clueless.
