For the life of me I cannot think of a more poorly played SB game in my lifetime. The only games that come close to being that kind of mismatch were the Pats vs Bears in '85, and the Giants vs Ravens in '00. Seattle is a great team and manhandled the Broncos from jumpstreet- but in addition to that: the Broncos were HORRIBLE yesterday in every phase of the game.

Throw in the fact that Denver owned far and away the best offense in the NFL, a 5x League MVP QB and I can't believe how bad they were. Teams have bad days true but in a game of that magnitude to allow themselves to be throttled at every level with the talent that they themselves fielded on the world's biggest stage?

I say to you that was in fact the singular worst performance in a SB in history. If anyone can think of a worse played game for all the marbles please share your opinions.

Worst SB Performances:

1) Denver vs Seattle - just completely inept. No fight whatsoever, no urgency, poor gameplan... F+++. Epic fail.

2) Giants vs Ravens- outclassed GMen hammered by one of the most brutal Defenses in history
3) Patriots vs Bears.- Pats made their living on creating turnovers. They got the first. And were cannon fodder thereafter
4) Bills vs Cowboys- Once young Cowboys got their legs, a hammering like none seen ever
5) Denver vs SF- Montana, Rice- dominant NFC team that gave no quarter to a Broncos team that was competitive for a half at best.
6) San Diego vs SF- Mismatch at every level
7) Commanders vs Raiders- One could rate this game higher on the list. Juggernaut Commanders derailed without warning.
8) Denver vs Giants- Despite halftime score, Giants not to be denied, much too physical. Simms awesome in this game.
9) Eagles vs Raiders- another one that can move up the list. Unexpected and thorough asskicking.
10) Raiders vs Bucs- Nasty Bucs D led by Brooks and Co. 'Raid the endzone

No the 2000 Giants were much worse. And the 2002 Raiders.

But I don't know what anyone expected from a John Fox coached team.

Given the expectations- I'd argue that Denver's performance last night was worse than the Giants in 2000 by a mile.

Question: Would you have rather been there and played like Denver, or not be there at all?

Well only if you were slurping Peyton like the media.

Slurping has nothing to do with it. This was a #1 Seed, record setting offense. And Seattle destroyed them like they were Jacksonville in Wk. 2. Seattle is awesome, but I really believe any team in the NFL could have played a better game than they did yesterday.

Seattle destroyed them in the preseason too. In Week 3, dress rehearsal week.

Not been there at all, lol. That was a disgusting display of ineptitude.

It really was. From Holliday's returns to the 15, the bad snap to start the game, the dink and dunk gameplann vs the quickest LB's in the league... Peyton's arm aged ten years in two weeks time somehow. That was atrocious.

Seattle did what you're supposed to do to beat Peyton Manning. Line up and win. Someone was on radio last week saying the same thing - said that they didn't even listen to Peyton on film because it was worthless. They just game planned to line up and win their assignments.

It was up there along with the Denver performance in the super bowl against the Niners in 89 as the worst I have seen.

As bad as they were, and they were bad, the Miami Dolphins didn't look to great when they played Dallas in the Superbowl back in the day.

I'd put last night right up there with the 2000 Giants and the 1992 Bills though. Both of those games were just as brutal for the team getting it's butt handed to it.

I find it hard to have respect for Peyton Manning after that showing. People want to talk about Romo, but Romo can't even win regular season games. Peyton leads a team to one of the most dominant week-by-week seasons of all time only to look pathetic in the Super Bowl. I don't care how well Seattle game planned, there is no excuse for Denver's performance. There's no way you can't blame Peyton for a lot of it. If you give him so much credit for wins, you can't to give him a lot of credit for that loss. I don't care what people say. Seattle's offense wasn't playing that great. They didn't need to do much. Denver's offense lost that game. And it falls 90% on Peyton. I think that game showed that if there ever was a true choker in the NFL, his name starts with P and ends with Eyton. That was a pathetic performance and I'm tired of hearing how great the guy is. He'll probably win another meaningless MVP next year and get humiliated again in the playoffs.

nice article. I just have to rank Sunday's game and Denver's performance in it... the worst SB effort in history.

The Seahawks D is tremendous, but not to the level of the '00 Ravens or '85 Bears. The Broncos were a no show on Offense, putrid on ST's, coaching was horrific, no redeeming moment whatsoever against a team they should have been in the game with at least for 3 Qtrs. To my mind they gave the worst SB performance ever. Period.

Broncos looked totally ill-prepared to play a game Sunday. Worst I've seen in a Super Bowl. And I mean from the first play - it was clear they didn't have their act together. So many miscues. And strangely, it wasn't the Broncos defense that was the problem, it was that offense and a teach that didn't look like they'd been coached, ever...

It's ranked up pretty high. Bad snap for a safety at the opening play of the Superbowl was probably the most embarrassing moment I've seen in almost 2 decades of watching football.

Just the fact it is in the conversation makes it one of the worst ever.

A SEA/SF rematch would have been better.
