This by no means is a shot at the many well-intentioned, well-informed fans on this site, but do you find an overwhelming number of threads simply a rehash of (take your pick):

  • JJ and the entire FO are a joke
  • Fire Garrett, Linehan, etc.
  • Dak is/is not the QB of the future
  • Predictably of the offense
  • Etc, etc,
Personally, I find I spend more and more time in the Off-Topic Zone or on threads that focus more on the analytics of the game, whether it is an unbiased review of All-22 or or the tendencies and trends. My fondness and interest in the analytics probably speaks more to my "left brain" approach to problem-solving.

There is a third thread theme that draws my interest: the human interest story. A case in point is the recent Randy Gregory article.

What floats your boat? What type of threads or discussion topics draws your interest?

This is pretty much the same as Cowboys message boards have always been..any team in the NFL is pretty relative. Only so many topics to talk about..that’s why you see the media creating storylines. Every now and then a new topic comes up such as trading for Peterson a few years ago or trading for Earl Thomas but generally, it’s usually the same thing on repeat and that’s okay.

Wonder how many Quincy/Hutch threads were made back in the day?

So you started a thread to boast about how smart you are and bash the majority of the fans here.
Got it.

I think the subject line pretty much sums up what we have accomplished in the last 23 years, right? All we can do is hope for a different result while rooting our Boys on!

My favorite is in the off-season reading free agent and draft stuff.

I found this site in 2005 and was amazed people on here knew about us getting Anthony Henry, Marco Rivera, and Jason Ferguson before I could find it anywhere on ESPN etc.

Also, over the years it has helped me figure out who to research before the draft because I don't watch much college football (ex. this year everyone was talking about us drafting LVE way before the draft).

I noticed that too. Multi threads on same stuff, then the next day, same stuff. If one does start something different it turns into the same old stuff.
But lately as the winning streak got going, many different threads stated to appear with some positivity to them.
Many with tempered enthusiasm as it should be for now. Beat the Eagles like we should, then we will have some real good threads.

But still a great source for collective info.
As posted above, FA and draft info is great. One can go to all their own familiar sites, but someone usually post a different site you do not know about, or you forgot about, didn't bookmark.

Also the tweets. I do not do twitter, so I appreciate all the Zoners that post them.

This probably won't come as much of a surprise to you Colo, but you and I are much the same in the brand of content we pursue : Human interest, film study and breakdowns complete w/gifs and/or Hunter S Thompson-esque gonzo-style journalism. '

For really good and in-depth film study, you should check out www.cover1.net and specifically Allan Uy, who does a weekly segment called "Guess the gameplan" for the Dallas Cowboys next opponent. In each entry, he gives you a breakdown of what to expect complete with gifs in the upcoming contest. It's generally a really good read. Patrik Walker of 247sports.com, is also a pretty good word-smith. And here is a human-interest piece done on LVE by Jori Epstein of USA Today:

This is simply a response to not winning enough lately.

If the team at least made it to a couple NFC championship games, or even better a super bowl lately, then while there would still be complainers, there would be much less. Jerry the FO, garret, etc would receive a lot more slack.

I don’t see why fans should be satisfied with the occasional playoff appearance coupled with a divisional round bounce, followed up with .500 seasons, that we have been receiving lately.

And Garrett's philosophies put us at a clear disadvantage in the playoffs.

We have to beat teams with talent and effort.

OTher teams will match our effort in the postseason and for what they lack in talent, if they even do lack it compared to us, they will make up for with knowing what we will do and countering it with wrinkles of their own.

It's going to be tough to win 3 or 4 games in a row in the postseason with nothing but talent and effort.

There would be people who post here that would be mad if the Cowboys won a SB, simply because what they like to do here wouldn't work for almost half a year.

"Hunter S Thompson-esque gonzo-style journalism" -- now I understand our connection :). A little more fear and a bit less loathing with regard to the Cowboys (twisting a Hunter S Thompson phrase).

Yes, to the human interest, film study and analytical breakdowns.... throw in a little "me, myself and I" for thoughtful reflection and you're swimming in my pool. :)

Thanks for the USA Today article (good read, by the way) and the link to www.cover1.net; I was not aware of the Cover1 site.

I like talking about everything. Human interest stories, Xs and Os, what's going on with division rivals, debates on our own players, coaches, etc.
