Washington could stick with Robert Griffin III in 2015, fire Jay Gruden per report

Washington head coach Jay Gruden could be "one and done" with the team if he insists on moving on from quarterback Robert Griffin III heading into the 2015 season, according to a report from Jason Reid of The Washington Post. Griffin was benched by Gruden in favor of Colt McCoy when it became clear that Griffin wasn't able to execute the kind of offensive gameplan that Gruden likes to run. Namely, Griffin struggles to make reads from the pocket, and Gruden's offense relies on a pocket passer.

It's a confusing situation when it comes to Gruden, general manager Bruce Allen and owner Dan Snyder. Last season, Mike Shanahan was ousted by Snyder in part because of a power struggle and a back-and-forth in the media between the two. Allen was given a pass because Shanahan was not his coach, while Snyder hitched the team to Griffin. Now, another coach wants to move on from Griffin, and it's possible Snyder is still not willing to budge.

According to the report, Gruden "believes he needs a clean break from Griffin to focus on fixing Washington's 3-9 mess," and that could lead to him losing his job after just one season if Snyder and Allen believe Griffin should be the starter next season. Washington gave up an awful lot to acquire Griffin, trading multiple high-round picks to draft him. It looked like a good move at first when Griffin was named Offensive Rookie of the Year and took Washington to the playoffs in 2012, but it's been all downhill from there.

RG3 shouldn't be playing another down for the Commanders. He needs to sit behind a veteran for a year. That guy has lost his ways and If Snyder can't see it, i'll be enjoying another Commanders melt down next season.

This could work out beautifully if the combination of Snyder's stubbornness and Griffin's incompetence just hold their franchise hostage for the next several years.

How does Snyder not see that he needs to cut bait with RGIII, trade him now while you can get something out of him. I am glad its happening to that organization, but its mind numbing how stupid the decision making is there. Honestly the NFL needs to just take the team from Snyder. Hes not cut out to be a NFL Owner.

These articles just prove none of these reporters have a clue what is going to happen when the season ends. One day Griffin is going to be traded, the next day Gruden is going to be fired. They don't know anything, so they play both sides of the argument, and when the season ends they'll claim they knew it all along.

I tend to believe he is going and the benching is to keep him healthy.

Seems like an odd rumor considering they're keeping Gruden around while RGKnee rides the pine. Snyder and McKnee used to look like best buddies, so it's hard for me to buy that the front office would sign off on benching RG3andout unless they were okay with it. Honestly, I think there's a good chance Gruden and McGriffith are both gone next season.

If Jay went into the interview with Danny saying he could win with RG3 then yes cut him loose.

Well, would you stick with a coach who has gotten you to the point of building around Colt McCoy in about a half a season?

About as much as I would stick with a QB who is 4-14 over the past two years, and has regressed to the point that many think he hasn't played well enough to get you that many wins.
