Washington Commanders, Haynesworth = $100 million, malcontent and lazy, suspended for rest of the season

Washington Capitals, Jaromir Jagr = $77 million wasted, Jagr didn't do much for the team

Washington Wizards, Gilbert Arenas = $111 million the Wizards will forever regret giving to a moron.

Washington Nationals, Jayson Werth = $126 million for an above-average player, club desperately seeking legitimacy

Stupid town. :laugh2:

The Jayson Werth deal is a big time headscratcher with the rest of that lineup. The others, you can see why they did what they did.

I agree. I can't figure out why you give a guy who is IMO average outfield slugger a mega contract. It would be like the Rangers signing Tommy Hunter for 7 years $126M. While he is good, he isn't THAT good.

Especially Werth, who benefitted heavily from hitting around that Phillies lineup.

Oh well. They can sandwich him between Nyjer Morgan and Matt Morse :laugh1:

Those three teams are actually the exact opposite of the Commanders. For the most part they've been building their teams the right way - with younger players and through the draft.

The Capitals are actually very good.

The Nats will likely never be competitive, and I don't necessarily think they have free agents lining up at the door to sign with them. They probably sign whoever they can get. lol

To be fair, Jagr did quite a bit. It completely changed Leonsis' thinking with regards to team building.

After that epic fail, he dismantled the team and started young. Boom, number 1 pick in Alex Ovechkin and after a few good drafts you have the top team in the NHL (regular season wise)

No Jagr contract, no blowing up the team, no tanking, no Ovechkin who by himself has raised the value of that team by over 100 million.

The Werth contract is for legtimacy on the FA market. The Nats badly needed to lose the "cheap" reputation and overpaying for a guy is how it was done.

The other 2, no comment :)
