We need to start Carpenter and Watkins. Davis is not a good FS and although Parcells loves him because he is a good special teams player, he should not be a starting defensive player. Singleton is a very solid player. He does not make many mistakes and he is good against the run.

However, neither Singleton nor Davis are playmakers. They are what they are and they aren't going to get any better. Our defense has two major holes right now, FS and OLB opposite Ware. Carpenter and Watkins could fill both those holes.

Watkins had an interception tonight and Carpenter was always around the ball when he was in the game and had 1.5 sacks. These guys are learning and are still green, but they can both be playmakers. We should sit Davis and Singleton and start Carpenter and Watkins. We need a spark on defense and both of these guys are potential playmakers.

Singleton isn't a playmaker, but he's also not a rookie. I'm willing to bet a number of those plays where Singleton is seemingly doing nothing, he's actually doing SOMETHING simply by not frigging up the defensive assignment.

It seems like Carpenter is in there more often when the offense is in predictable situations.

If he were in there every play, you'd probably see more assignments blown than with Singleton.

But I like how Carpenter is slowly rounding into form. Maybe we've found ourselves a player, yet.

Watkins picked off a pass in garbage time, and Carp played decent, snagging Vick a couple times when he was scambling and just happened to run into 54's arms.

That's exactly what Singleton brings, right on. **thumbs up**

He's never been the best linebacker on the field but he plays hard every play giving it his all plus he's smart. You won't find him in the hall of fame or pro bowl probably but he's a solid dependable player. You know what you're getting when he's on the field.

I would say Watkins should start more so than Carpenter.... The more games Watkins has played in the better he's looked, Carpenter hasn't really shown anything. I would like to see a guy like Lamar Woodley from Univ. of Michigan drafted by Dallas this year!

Singleton makes that occasional play in the most opportune of times and to his credit as a linebacker he never gets his name called for bad or good which suggests quiet solidarity at the position.

Also all of those freakin' killer flat passes are opposite of Singleton, Al has been covering the flats but the left side has been atrocious in coverage, i don't know who is responsible, Ware, Burnett or a safety.

Before the game BP talked about a spy on Vick and that before LT was the only guy he had that could spy Randall Cuningham and that Vick was even more elusive than Cunningham. Well from what I could tell, Carpenter was our spy on Vick. He kink just hung around at the line of scrimmage until Vick took off. That's pretty good praise from BP to Carpenter.

I really want to see Watkins become the FS that we desperately need. If Watkins can stay back there and be a playmaker, then that would allow Roy to play more up to the line and allow him to be a playmaker himself. I have been wondering where Carpenter has been. Glad to hear he made some plays. I just really hope that Watkins grows into the FS that will solidify the secondary, and take care of the problems that we are having now.

My feeling exactly--good post on this situation
