Watkins at cb?

That means our Nickel back is.... Akin Ayodele (2 picks), and our Dime CB.... wait for it.... Greg Ellis!!! He only had one pick, but that was as many as Newman and Glenn, and Ellis is 6'6"... he has the size to stick with the Roy Williams and Andre Johnson's of the NFL.

I agree Zimmer was a genius at this sort of stuff turning safteys into cb's. Just looked what he did with mario edwards and pete hunter for example.

Now that Brown showed he can play a little fs. What about moving watkins over to cb like we did mario edwards a few years back? Would this be a dumb move?

At 6'5" Watkins isn't exactly built to hang with quick WR's.

Heck, Watkins hasn't even been able to convince the Cowboys he can help in coverage playing 10 yards deep - why should they think he can cover WR's from the line of scrimmage?

I posted this last night in the game thread, but that pick that Courtney Brown made was the play I wish Watkins would have made on that deep ball against the Giants.

I don't know if he played well enough to earn a spot or not, but that one specific INT was VERY nice.

Watkins had more Ints than most of our corners last season. [ 3 ]

There's much much more to being a good corner than interceptions, look at Newman. Hell, Ware had two interceptions last year, want him to play corner too?

Plus, it's easier to track the ball when you start 15 yards off the line and can stare down the QB, completely different than playing a receiver.

Ball is going to get cut. He hasn't proved himself to have skills in coverage or special teams.

Hines Ward was a QB. So was Drew Pearson. Antwan Randal El. Patrick Crayton. Matt Jones.


DeMarcus Ware was a DE. So was Sean Merriman. Terrell Suggs.


But Hines Ward et al were drafted as WR's, and it worked out pretty well.

And DeMArcus Ware, et al were drafted as OLB's, and it worked out pretty well.
