Source: Sam Hurd on the trade blocks
April, 22, 2010 Apr 2211:53PM CTEmail Print Share By Calvin WatkinsIRVING -- A source said Thursday night the Cowboys will entertain offers for backup wide receiver Sam Hurd.

Hurd, who led the team in special teams in 2009 with 19 tackles, hasn't developed as quickly as a receiver. Last season, Hurd caught just seven passes for 121 yards with one touchdown.

As of right now, the Cowboys depth chart has Miles Austin, Roy E. Williams, Patrick Crayton, Kevin Ogletree, Manuel Johnson, Jesse Holley and Hurd.

The issue is that Hurd wants to play on offense more and that might not happen here with the Cowboys drafting Dez Bryant.

Ummm... is this a joke? Seriously, what does Jerry expect to get for either of them?

I think we'll package some guys tomorrow. Miami could probably get a lot of their old players for a 3 &5.

Seriously we might as well just give him to someone, no way we get anything but MAYBE a seventh for him. Maybe just lump him in with some other payers/picks to move up?

We might be able to get a late 7th for Hurd.

We might be able to get an 8th round pick and a bag of chips for him.

Somebody might give a 6th or 7th if they think he can develop into a regular in the offense. You also cant deny his value as a special teamer. KC might be a possibility with Todd Haley.

I imagine right now the Cowboys will consider offers for Hurd, Watkins, Spears, Barber, and Bennett. I wouldn't be shocked if they moved a couple of these guys to pick up a few extra later round picks to possibly use to move around and get the safety and OL help they want to come out of this draft with.

Heres my impression of other teams - "so"

I think its a guarantee Miami will offer something for him.

He can play and they know him.

I'm sure Crayton is being shopped around as well. Crayton probably has some decent trade value - a good #3 receiver at a relatively low salary.

If a team like Miami or NO are interested, they may throw JJ a 7th for both of them (Hurd and Watkins), but otherwise they will just wait for them to be cut.

I'll take some lint and a few cough drops.

Can the lint be attached to the drops? Parcells probably has some ludemans in his sweater pocket he may be willing to part with.

All joking aside, we probably keep both Hurd and Watkins. Both are great special teams players and have little to no trade value. Players higher on the depth chart will be traded for draft picks or other players.

Can't help but laugh at the notion that our trade block includes Hurd, Proctor and Carpenter. I'm envisioning the Madden trade block screen with those three mugs on one side, as I try to squeeze a first round pick from, say, Washington in return.

On a side note, this is another good example of how terribly fake Madden is. The game always rejects that trade. The real Washington wouldn't.
