Watkins Saturday practice notes

Saying a 206 pound defensive back is small is just dumb. His measurements were taken at the combine and saying they aren't legit is stupid.
Look ar him! He looks small compared to his teammates around him. Quit kissing up so much.

I guess when you're next to a dude who's 5-6 inches taller and 40-50 pounds heavier, you're going to not look like a macho man in comparison.
Very true, but in reality, he does not look like he is 6 foot tall or weighs 200+ pounds. He looks smaller.

He is 206 pounds. Do you not believe it? When you stand next to a 265 pound tight end you look small. Do you not understand?
He looks small standing next to his fellow DBs, and they are supposedly around the same height and weight. Which means his height and weight numbers might be off intentionally. Understand?

The next big play he makes will be his second.

A lot of hype around BSF
He crushes defenders as a blocker.

He doesn't have to be a wow receiver in order to get a lot of playing time.
- If he can just consistently catch the easy dump-off passes, then he could be the #2 TE.

I sitll kinda think that is small IMO.

But against my understanding of the league average since the advent of the passing age in NFL he is right on size.

If we look at the progression of the opposing players who enter into the zone of play for safeties:

1. RBs are looking more like our HOF RB Smith who was compact with a low center of gravity.

2. TEs are big, with ridiculously long arms and a bit heavier mass to represent the "flex" coaches want in having both as an in-line blocker and option receiver.

So looking at Downs in alot of the replay videos posted lately he looks small to me, but that doesn't mean I believe he will play small.

I am going to tune into more of the TC videos to get a feel for how he stacks up physically against our best receivers, Lamb and Pickens and also the TEs and RBs.

I also believe that people carry their weight differently on their bodies that may affect how we view them in a physical eyetest.

If there was a positive in the video. It's that Downs got into the mix and more importantly tried to get under the skin of Spann-Ford.

I am hoping this is a hint of what is to come from Parker, the defensive coaches and the new culture of this defence.

He is the number 2.

Combine numbers are legit. They are not off, period.
