Watkins Saturday practice notes

You guys have no clue what you’re talking about. Midget.
Holy man, you have to give this up.

You are exaclty what I posted in another post about how society behaves.

I can't even fathom how you can elevate topics on a public forum to the level you have and even be happy with your life.

It's like you have nothing of value if you aren't fighting with every contrary or oppsing thought about the Cowboys.

I recommend you take a break as TC continues because the chatter may be impossible for you to manage if this triggers you.

Saying a 206 pound defensive back is small is just dumb. His measurements were taken at the combine and saying they aren't legit is stupid.
It's not stupid. I don't think this type of talk is beneficial.

Maybe I didn't spend enough time explaining why I characterize his shape and size as a "midget" in my first post.

In an earlier post to explain I stated that people carry their dimensions differently and when you look at them with an eyetest you get an impression.

So a well known Cowboy safety we are all familiar with is Roy Williams.

IMO Roy Williams looked every bit of the "big" safety, thick, heavy and a load at the point of impact. Maybe not the best coverage guy and more downhill.

I find it curious that those who are opposed to the statement of size on Downs naturally defend his size as a indication of how he will perform as a player.

I put Tyrann Mathieu as a case in point. At 5'9" and that is a bit of stretch in my opinion and less than 190 lbs, which makes him look very thick IMO, the Honeybadger had a fabulous career.

I stand by my opinion that Downs looks small. He looks thin. But I don't expect that to impede his ability to be effective on the field.

Why all the defensive fuss?

He looks small standing next to his fellow DBs, and they are supposedly around the same height and weight. Which means his height and weight numbers might be off intentionally. Understand?
Combine numbers are measured by NFL medical staff. He was measured at 6’0”, 205

College teams often inflate numbers but in this case his combine numbers were almost identical at 6’0”, 206

NFL teams aren’t going to let combine numbers be faked just for media hype when their scouting departments rely on accurate information when they build their draft boards.

Oh get off your high horse and don’t be so sensitive. I just laughed at your “midget” comment. Jeez so sensitive people these days. Me, me, me.

He’s 6’0” and 210 lbs according to the mothership.

Then he’s gained five pounds since the combine, there’s an error, or the team is inflating the number

He’s probably put on five. Many players drop a little weight to help out on the workout metrics.

The bottom line is that he’s perfectly average compared to other safeties, including some recent hall of fame players.

Some want to claim he’s undersized and some want to make him plus sized.

He’s neither

Damn lineman…forget Schoon, Spann-Ford needs to be #2…..hell, run more 2TE sets and utilize that beast. I’ve heard he’s too at routes too, and blocking.
He’s improved his blocking which is key to being the second TE

I’m not even paying these guys any mind i remember during the draft process they talked about how Downs measurables weren’t that of other high picks like James and Hamilton. These guys argue to argue. As it saying he small means he sucks…..he’s gonna bulk and be perfectly fine with nfl weight.

He’s neither
So is it impossible for him to gain 4 pounds before training camp?

Yeah I remember a couple of guys saying he wasn’t as long as other guys that were touted as top 10 picks, and like you said, the two guys they used as examples were D James and K Hamilton. Both of those guys are jumbo sized safeties (specifically height).

The analysts said that Downs wasn’t big like those guys, but his smarts and leadership make him a top 10 type of safety.

But James and Hamilton aren’t average sized safeties… they’re very tall, long safeties.

Downs, who is 6-0 205 is around the average size for a safety. Since he is just 6-0, he is built thicker than many safeties.

I remember Bryan Broaddus saying during minicamp that Caleb is more thick and muscular in person than he expected him to be.

Yeah this sums it up. I’m not concerned with his size and like you said he’s closer to league an edge than James and Hamilton are. Big guys. Not as small as Buddha either.

I still can’t believe we got him.
