This team’s biggest mistake was paying Tank as much as they did. He’s s good player. He’s just not worth what we are paying him.

This team is getting WAY too top heavy as it pertains to the cap. Someone has to walk, or be traded, or cut.

Hopefully some of these deals have ripcords. I know we have quite a bit of cap space so maybe you can heavily front load them.

Maybe JJ is just thinking “Go for it” this year. Chips all in by overpaying his current stars. Maybe JJ is done thinking about tomorrow and will put all his cap chips on 2019.

Just thinking out loud. It may be that SJ wants restraint and JJ wants chips all in and that’s the discussion. If that’s true, JJ gets his way.

Cut? Well the kicker is struggling.

Lawrence is the only dlineman that consistently creates pressure and gets to the QB.

Crawford is the player that needs to go. Cutting him now will save 5 million this year and 8 million next season.

Pay Dak top 15 pay.
Pay Amari what the market is.
Trade Zeke for
1. A corner
2. A safety
3 A young WR

The thread title isn't about me, right? Right?

DLaw is an elite player in both pass defense and run defense, something few players in the NFL can say. He got market rate and the Cowboys didn't set a new standard with his contract.

You gets great players to gots to pay great salaries. I'd much rather do that than be the Commanders.

To build a team through drafting takes years. By the time you are gathering quality depth, the top end of your squad needs paying. The way things are isn't a mistake, it's just how it works. All of which is fine if, when the window is briefly open, you get to a SB.

Based on what? Last year majority of his sacks came against two teams - Giants and Lions. Had 1 sack in two games we played against Philly. The rest of the playoff teams we played he had 0 sacks. So what is this elite pass defense you are talking about?

DLaw had 5 sacks in the last 14 games, and an extensive injury history. Bad contract. Taco being a bust really hurt.

The oline contracts are blue chip pro bowlers, although they can and do get injuries.

The guys we're talking about signing since aren't in the same class, except maybe Zeke, but RBs have a limited lifespan. I'd probably be happiest about extending Jaylon and LVE.

Most QB's in today's NFL can escape one guy in the backfield. Dlaw has never had that other bookend or push up the middle to help him out.

With that being said, I didn't like the Dlaw signing because there was a plethora of good DE's coming out in this years draft. We could have gotten a third round comp pick for him next year and just started Joe Jackson in his place.

I am there with you about Tank.

I just dont think we will cut someone this year because of the salary he gets. I do think we have a real shot at the title this year. So we will try to build the best roster possible with the best depth possible.

Actually, the Cowboys did set a new standard with Dlaw's new contract since it's the new franchise record in contracts, surpassing Tony Romo's.

I dont think it was a mistake to pay Tank. But you are right this team is getting top heavy meaning they are loaded at most positions. All these players who are up for contract are top players at that position. The one guy that is avg is Dak. Honestly this team is built to be about as QB friendly as you can get. You let Dak test the FA market and find out his worth. Dak needs too much talent around him to win. The biggest mistake that will cripple this team is if they over pay Dak.
My biggest issue with Dak is his arm talent. Yes he has a lot of very good intangibles but an NFL QB must have the ability to make tight window midfield throws enough to back off a defense.

Sign these guys and pay them a bunch this year, restructure Tank and Dak next year and cut Crawford. Cut Tank the year after that. Voila!

How did you turn being too heavy into a bad thing? They have solid depth too. Being top heavy isn’t a bad thing.

Dak needs too much talent to win lol? Needing solid coaching and solid players is too much talent? He needs just about as much as Wentz needs or any other young quarterback.
