Ways to Get into the Playoffs!

Win out OR beat the Skins and the Giants lose once.

I think there are a couple other very long shot scenarios, but I don't know what they are.

Basically we have two routes with any realistic chance of happening.

1. We beat the Saints and the Skins and win the division.

2. We lose to the Saints, beat the Skins, and the Giants lose 1 of their last 2 and we win the division.

There are a couple of scenarios for us to get a Wildcard, but they are really out there. Like 7 games having to all fall correctly for us. I read in another thread that the playoff generators currently have our chances of a Wildcard at 3%.

So its basically division title or bust at this point.

If we beat the Saints and loose to the Skins then the Vikings and Bears need to loose their last two and the Giants need to loose one of their games.

Actually, the Vikings and Bears don't have to lose out. If we tie at 9-7 with Chicago and Minnesota we win the wild card spot if Minnesota beats Houston but loses to Green Bay. So ... Minnesota winning this week vs Houston would actually help us.

If we tie with Chicago then we loose out as they beat us in week 4 and I believe (although I could be wrong) Minnesota have a better conference record.

There is an entirely different set of tiebreakers to settle a three-way tie.

It was brought up that Minn would still have the tiebreaker over Dallas because of their strength of wins if they beat Houston.

What does "strength of wins" mean? Final record of opponents beaten or point differential?

Winning percentage of the opponents beaten.

So according to the NFL tie breaking procedures

Three or More Clubs:

Point 2

"Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)"

So Chicago has defeated the Vikings (and lost to them) and Dallas.

So to me reading the above gives Chicago the edge over us.

But Minn didn't play Dallas so head to head can't be used.

Win out is the only acceptable way.

Actually if the Giants lose one more game, and we beat the Skins, the New Orleans game is probably meaningless.

Be very careful here fella....you will get lectured on how "we just need to win 2 games and not worry about it", or "the players need to not have a let down"...as if we control that. Great question, IMHO however.

No doubt the Bears have the adv over us. I hope they continue their epic meltdown.
