We’re getting nothing from the TE

Link to that? I think they were eying Goerdert all along with that 2nd.

You got a link. All the talk about the 2nd round pick was that they would have traded it for ET except that Connor Williams was available. I haven’t seen anything written anywhere that they had any intention of drafting Goerdert in the 2nd round. Philly may have thought they might take him and thought they were trolling Dallas and the announcers made a big deal about it but all Dallas has ever said is that Williams was their guy. They didn’t expect to get one of the top OL guys there and he was a no brainer pick for them.

That's really the issue there, without knowing the particulars it may not make sense for them to move him during the season.

Still odd to me they signed him to be a big deal when they just got OJ.

But I don't watch them and have no clue how often they use both TEs.

I'm with you guys that our TE talent is meh. Rico is the only guy with real upside.

But...

At what point do we stop blaming Dez, the WR's, and the TE's and start putting the blame on Dak and the playcaller?

All 3 of our TE's could've hit paydirt by now if Dak either found them or gave them a good pass.

Swaim , Jarwin, Schultz, Gathers

All these guys stink aloud ...

Swaim at least can block ...

Time to make a deal or sign a vet?

Take it up with Dak.

All the passing numbers are down. Have been for many games now.

I think we would have taken goedert had he been there with our #2. but we did just fine with Williams. philly added another good te to go with ertz. a smart move on their part. we got a man to fill the hole in our o-line.

OK but that no brainer has yet to be proven because he's the weak link in the chain right now. But if not for him, what would they have there? But he is not a good LG. But I don't know if Goedert is a good TE either.

I assumed because of Witten's retirement, TE went up the board and I guess that's what others were doing. I am not surprised that they decided to go into the season with this group of humps though. Let's forget what a security blanket the TE was to the young QB.

14 point average per game is NOT playoff caliber football

They love Jarwin. He'll probably get every opportunity to show something

Witten screwed them over by making them think he was going to play this year. If he retired in Feb, we could at least put a few fliers on the lower end TEs that got signed.
Not hating on him, but retiring after FA has died threw off their plans at TE

Just have to ride this out.

I don't think Witten screwed anybody. I mean, he didn't know he would get this offer and what player is not going to take that job? The Cowboys screwed themselves IMO. We have drafted 6 TEs in 10 years. If we don't have a replacement for Witten in 10 years time, that speaks more about our ability to draft then it does anything about Witten IMO.

No.

We have to get Schultz some playing time.

Same with Rico.

If and when the OL improves..

If and when the WRs start to draw double coverage somewhere..

then we will see TE production if they are not being used as blockers.

Hard to do both.

Witten didn't have another job offer in February. He didn't screw the team over, he just took advantage of an opportunity when it arose.

It's hard to know how much of this is lack of ability and how much is lack of opportunity. There isn't an top level TE in the group, but all have shown the ability to catch the ball. They just aren't being used.

Brate is a solid blocker and good pass catcher. Howard was struggling with blocking and iir had trouble picking up the offense, but has a big upside because of his athletic ability. The Bucs have split the work between them for the most part. Brate is the more consistent and reliable but Howard has the big play ability. I think the Bucs weren't sure about Howard going into the off season and didn't want to lose Brate, if Howard didn't continue to progress.

Yes.

In 2 games, Swaim/Jarwin/Gathers: 3rec, 18yds, 5tgts

IF Dak hits Rico in the endzone: 4rec, 29yds, 6tgts, 1TD

STILL very worrisome at the ineffectiveness of the TEs in this offense thus far.
That's fair. But I don't think this system is meant to have effective TEs in the passing game. I think it's transitioned to get a lot more out of multiple WRs, so I don't think total catches is really a good metric for what they're trying to do.

I should of put more into the part about not hating on him.
I didn't hate him for taking the offer. I got why he did it. But he also did restructure his deal in March to lower his cap, but increase the guarantees for this season. It was a move of confidence that he wanted to return at that time.
All I was saying was that the Cowboys put all their eggs in expecting Witten back for the starting role, so they didn't pursue and FA nor do I think they really scouted TEs heavily(JMO).

We have had replacements for Witten, just that Witten had outlasted them. Fasano would of been a solid replacement. Bennett would of been a solid replacement as well.
Just that Witten was showing no signs of slowing down and well we ended up not using the others to their strengths and they walked.
Fasano finally retired this offseason, but was solid for Miami last year and Bennett could still be playing if he wanted to be.

Dallas still had ample time to find a replacement. They had free agency and the draft. Yet the Cowboys "liked what they have."

He retired around the draft.

Speaking of Williams he had a really nice bounce back game against the Giants.
