If we think Lawrence, Gregory and Terrell Basham are enough of an edge rush to get it done. I see a lot of mocks with guys taking CB/FS/NT early (1-2), then at best taking an edge rusher in the 3rd or 4th round. That ain’t getting it done. This pass rush isn’t a Bradley Anae or Armstrong away from being dominant. This edge rusher class is deep but not that deep. We have a chance to get a Lawrence type guy at 44. Time to get him.

I'm with you. Pass rush is a huge priority. Not at all confident in our pass rushers

I'd rather have guys who can bring the rush from the inside, giving Tank and Gregory a better chance, than to go get another DE and sit one of these two down.

I agree with you. I'm more worried about improving the inside of the defensive line more than the outside. And at best, a rookie is going to back up and split snaps with the projected starters.

If Phillips slides into the 20’s I’d trade up in a heartbeat

I disagree, we haven’t had a DT worth a damn in so long, I feel like glover was the one who got consistent pressure. A high quality DT will make the ends job that much easier. We have 2 higher end (defensive ends), its time to improve the DT situation.

Unfortunately this draft the cupboard may as well be BARE at DT. The only guys id take would be MacNeil and Shelvin. Tufele could be an option too. As well as the guy from OSU

Completely agree. Fans seems to be in denial about it, but there is more than enough of a sample size to admit that Lawrence is not a sack artist/“war daddy”. 45.5 sacks in 96 career games... he had like 25 great games (during contract years) as a pass rusher that were the outlier. DLaw will give you great run D and 5-10 sacks. Expecting anything more is unrealistic IMO.

And Randy Gregory has not proven anything yet

Ability to trade back from #10 with a good offer received has to be best case scenario, rather than staying put

This draft doesn't even have a Lawrence type edge rusher in the 1st round what makes you think there's one at 44?

Same thing with the DTs though. 3 tech mainly. Watkins, Gallimore and Hill is worse than the DEs so dont focus on the edge

I don’t think there’s any guarantees that Watkins even makes the team. Maybe not for Hill either.

Maybe Quinn will actually put Anae on the field so we can see what we have

Yeah because obviously Nolan was holding back our savior Bradley Anae  ...the fan obsession with mediocre late round prospects always cracks me up

they know that's not enough. we need players who can become starters in the future and we need depth....so its a matter of Priority

DT? DE? CB? Saftey?

which one is the biggest need.

Agreed.

I don't know what a Gregory brings once he is able to have an entire camp under his belt. Gregory was allowed back in October so he was unable to work with the the team very much. Dlaw is very capable of putting up double digit. As for overall ability to rush the passer is 1st off stopping the run and putting teams in obvious passing situation something Dallas rarely did last season. Cowboys had the 2nd fewest passes thrown against them in the league, there was little reason since we could not stop the run and often put teams in great down and distance situation to open up their playbooks.

Guys, it's important to understand that the Seattle scheme, the one we will apparently be running this year, does not generate big sack numbers from the DT position. That's not the role. The pressures and sacks all come from the DEs and LBs. Going out and getting a pass rush, quick twitch type DT will just be a waste of talent and assets. The interior guys in this scheme eat blocks and play gap control. In rushing situations, their job is to push the pocket into the face of the QB to make it more difficult to stand and throw from the pocket. They want to move the QB off his spot. The LEO is the flush guy. His job is to beat the brush if you will. Once the QB is forced to scramble to one side of the field, the LBs run them down if the pass rush from the front 4 doesn't get to them first. So really, the LEO is pretty key. Using a pick on a DT that can beat their block and get pressure is really counter productive in a sense. They play gap control and have definite responsibilities there. If they don't stay true to this responsibility, the scheme is compromised and it will fail. I mean, I know it doesn't make sense, perhaps, but that's really not what you want from you DTs in this Defense.

There is not one player on defense I d miss if they went elsewhere other than maybe Diggs. Not buying into Gregory at this point. I am open to upgrades everywhere, particularly front 7.
