it's market value, who cares if we have to wait a year. Cap keeps going up, market value adjusts accordingly. If we all were so sure of Dak he would've been signed...like a year ago.
If we were so sure of Zeke he would have been signed a year ago....

Possibly, but only w/ the right pieces around him, which will be impossible to attain if we start giving too many players maxed out contracts.

Hey man, he won a wild card game and ranked in the middle of the league in just about everything. Clearly. he should be the highest paid guy in the NFL. There is no need for rationality in this discussion. We will sign whoever we want for whatever they want.

Only problem is he will be a FA then and doesn’t have to sign a market value contract here. Of course, we could pull a Commanders and FT him, but he doesn’t have to sign the FT tender.

Or at least one that doesn't give up damned near 300 yds rushing in an elimination game.

Isn’t it funny how Dak gets bashed but those same boneheads have nothing to say about the fact that it’s been the defense time and again that’s gotten the team bounced from the playoffs?

Clearly some cannot see the forest for the trees.

That’s the point. If he was “signed a year ago”, it would have cost $25 million a year. That price has now gone up to $35 million.

Nope. He could always sit out the year and make 0 dollars...

But if the cap is adjusted then its simply a number, and it shouldn't hurt. If it hurts to wait then at some point it'll become impossible to actually sign a vet QB. No?

“Adjusted” how? Even if it went up $10 million, that’s already been gobbled up by the quarterback rate hike alone, to say nothing of every other position contract increasing as well.

Every single position that the Cowboys need to sign - QB, RB, WR, DE, LB - have jumped dramatically in one year’s time.

My point is not to follow the bs behind market value, teams can easily lower the going rate as they're doing with RBs now. People keep saying best to sign now than later. Well I say if that logic applies to every season and the cap isnt adjusted then how can any team afford to pay a QB 10 years down the road?

Theres no reason rush daks contract just because his rate may go up. Thats entirely up to teams. Mr. jones said he won't be a market setter but he didn't say he wont be a market follower.

I believe market value for QBs will need to come down or it'll just be better to cycle qbs every 4 years like college teams if their rates dont increase proportionally with the cap.

I once believed that too. But reality has proven otherwise. When Wentz got his extension, it set the president for Daks making over $30 million. And Gurley’s deal helped get us into this Zeke holdout. And the Donald and Mack deals brought Lawrence’s price tag to $20 million a year. Now the WR market has jumped up as well. All have gone up, none are going down.

Dak wasn’t eligible to be signed a year ago. He had to complete 3 years of his rookie contract before he was eligible for a new deal.
