We all want to fix the D, but front office wants to revamp the O

We were all pleasantly surprised how much improved the defense was last yr. Perhaps just 1 more star away from putting together a legitimate, championship level defense.

The offense was a shell of their former selves once teams started defended the pass and dared them to run the football, which they couldn't with any success. Line was a mess, injuries and their inability to avoid the drive killing penalties, Zeke was playing on 1 leg and even Pollard was banged up, Dak was pressing and making more mistakes.

What the front office decided this offseason was that this group has reached it's peak and isn't good enough to compete against the elite teams in this league. Out is their top receiver, 2 starters along the OL and a need to rebuild the offense:

-OL needs to be totally rebuilt. Frederick has retired, Tyron may soon follow, Collins is off the roster, Martin is getting older. Huge hole at Left Guard, would like to find a better Center and need to think about Tyron's future replacement sooner rather then later. Is Steele the long-term answer at Right Tackle? Have to fix their inability to run the football and play cleaner. This is the #1 priority in this year's offseason.

-We are all aware the Zeke is probably playing his last yr with the team, unless he does a DLaw and takes a pay decrease. Tony Pollard is also an unrestricted fa after the season. They have to start thinking about the the future of the position.

-Team has to also rebuild their receiving core with the loss of Amari Cooper and perhaps even Dalton Shultz next yr. James Washington is nothing more then a bridge signing and isn't even guaranteed a roster spot this season. They have to restock both positions, as there is a big drop-off after their starters, #3 receiver or the #2 TE is like another starter.

We may not like it, but the offense needs retooling and a semi-rebuild. Fix the penalties/run game will only make the offense better, but it also will help the defense out.

I agree for the most part. I feel pretty good about the defense outside of the giant hole at RDE. You have to have some faith in the continued development of dudes like Osa, Diggs, Parsons, Joseph etc.

With Dak being the guy and having the big contract we HAVE to do everything we can to protect him and give him a chance to be great. To me, getting the OL back to being one of the best in the league is WAY more important than worrying about who WR3. If the OL is above average, the run game improves which helps the passing game. Dak has more time to throw and go through reads and passing game gets better. Drafting a new toy at WR in a class that lacks legit #1 WR talent over a plug and play OLmen would be a massive blow to this team moving forward IMO.

Because the front office is stupid. They see Cooper Kupp blowing up the super bowl, and have no comprehension that the D, and especially Aaron Donald, were even more instrumental.

Gawd it sucks having a stupid follow the ball GM. That's fine for a fan, but for a GM it's a death sentence.

Better? I guess, but we were still 19th. And we still can't stop the run. We need more than one more player on D.

We are close on defense, don’t need a major overhaul, especially with several prospects developing

Everything is fine accept for your Cooper and WR analysis. Cooper was no longer the #1. Lamb had taken that over clearly. Shultz was the #2 receiver on the team. The numbers clearly show that. Cooper was expendable with his salary.

We could use a young receiver on the 2nd day, but not at the expense of line or the defense on the first day.

Nope, and that's not what I said. We are about 3-4 players away from having a championship D. NT, another pass rusher, a ballhawking FS, and one unblockable DT, who may be on the roster.

Why? Because it doesn't take much study to figure out that most super bowl contenders have that on D, and that's what makes a D go. We also need some good solid LBs.

Fixing the OL has to be the priority above anything else. I wouldn’t be opposed if double dipping in that area.
2nd to fixing to fixing the D. Because that is the road to a super bowl. Spending most of your resources on the O is the road to another 1st round playoff exit. But, that's what puts seats in the stand and what a follow the ball GM concentrates on, so the 1st round playoff exit is what we end up w/.

We aren’t winning anything no matter how good the D until they fix their own problems on offense

Everyone makes good points on this thread but the Cowboys need to pick the best player on the board. If a defensive player is the highest player at 24, you pick him. If it is an offensive player you do the same. As bad as the offensive line played against the 49ers and Cardinals, the Cowboys don’t need to force the picks. The line was fine until Williams/Pollard fell on Tyron”s ankle.

OL is the biggest priority, the WR/TE positions are more secondary needs on the offensive side of the football.

I don't care how good you build this defense, you aren't winning a Super Bowl if you cannot score points on offense. Outside of beating the terrible divisional opponents down the stretch, offense score against any good team.

I agree about taking the best player available, but don't agree line was fine prior to Tyron getting hurt.

What has the biggest talent drop off between round 1 and round 2?
OL or DL?
I would use my 1st round pick on the less deep position and draft the other with my 2nd round pick.

I believe the best way to address this is to trade back and get that extra pick.

It's the opposite. You're forgetting that when those O problems were fixed, we were still a 1st round playoff exit. You really gotta stop and think about the big pic. We are not winning anything until we fix the D, period.

And you are not winning a super bowl until you can stop the run and make D stops in the 4th.

How many more times do we have to lose because we can't stop the run will it take for you to see this?

I am a huge advocate of moving back and targeting Travis Jones, would love to add Sam Williams and Chenal, but I don't see that happening based on what we have heard and seen thus far. We lost multiple offensive starters, where on Defense just lost Gregory and Kazee. We also just used 3 day 2 picks on defense last yr. I think their plan is to replace Gregory, but address other defensive needs late. They are banking on younger players and Quinn developing them.

No such thing as BPA. There are generally 5-6 players w/ around the same grade when a team picks. There are often even more.
