I have been trying to make a little bit of sense about how good we could really be this year. I think that we might be MUCH better than everyone predicts we could be.

A couple of cases in point. We had the Pittsburg Steelers beat and lost the game on a fluke play. The Steelers were what, 15-1, last year and we outplayed them the whole game.

We also gave Philly all they wanted in the second game last year, which was, if I remember correctly at their place, which is not a very friendly place to play.

These two teams are considered fairly elite teams. This shows that we can play with anyone.

The injury factor cannot be overstated. If Payton Manning were to be out for the season, would the Colts be a playoff team? I really kinda doubt they would be considered formidable.

Before we get all excited keep in mind 17 of the 33 losses under Campo were by a TD or less.

We were a scrappy bunch under Scrappy, but we still were 15 and 33.;)

what we are really is a 6-10 team from last year that has changed
several coaches, put in a new defensive scheme, signed a few free agents
(guys whose previous teams didnt think they were worth as much as we did),
drafted some guys with "great potential", ( but still unproven in the NFL ),
let go some players who produced for us in the past (coakley) and brought back 2 who we let go (zuriel smith and dantzler ). on paper it doesnt
look near as exciting does it ?? i still dont know why im so dang EXCITED !!!!

I kind of agree with Verdict about us being way better than anyone's predicted. C'mon people, admit it. Haven't you all at least once considered the possibility that we at least have the potential to turn into one of those cinderella teams that just sneak up out of nowhere & bite everybody in the butt? But, absolutely EVERYTHING has to go our way this year for that to happen. Bledsoe has to perform, the O-line has to dominate, the top rooks must all seriously contribute as starters, the FA's have to prove they were worth bringing in, the D has to come together & once again be fearsome... and many more. Above all, we have to stay healthy. If all that we're to happen, yeah, I could see us unseating the Eagles and taking the NFC East.

Probably not going to happen though. Murphy's law will make it's presense known somewhere, somehow. I see us coming away with 'bout 10 wins and a wildcard slot. Provided our draft proves to be a good one and most of the FA's pan out, we are a team on the cusp of greatness. In '06, with today's players having a year under their belts, and another draft/FA period behind us, we'll be able to challenge anybody. Key to this is finding our qb of the future. Is he already on the team? Maybe. If not, we'd better get one in here fast.

...and there you have it. We were below average last year - plain and simple. Blame can (and is) placed everywhere.

As for this year, run, run, run and short, short short, safe passing.

Boring games for the casual fan, probably close games overall. We are relying heavily on the defense and this years draft to get us by with this formula.

I think we'll be better and I think our record will be better.

The questions I have while rebuilding is, how long is Parcells here and how long does Bledsoe start as our QB?

I, for one, wish we were bringing along a young QB whilst bringing along the other rookies but that isn't going to happen with Bill.

We'll see.
