"WE ARE WHO WE ARE"

I have to say that I really didn't realize how bad this was until I did the numbers.

The Cowboys finished 9-7 or 9-8 including the playoff game.

Six of our 16 games were against teams that finished last place in their division. We were 4-2 against last place teams.

Five of our games were against 8-8 teams. Carolina, NY(2), Jacksonville and Tennesse finished 8-8. We were 3-2 against 8-8 teams.

Here are the teams we beat in 2006:
  1. Washington
  2. Tennessee
  3. Houston
  4. Carolina
  5. Arizona
  6. Indianapolis
  7. Tampa Bay
  8. NY Giants
  9. Atlanta
Out of these 9 games that the cowboys won, only one of those opponents finished the season with a record over .500. Indianapolis was the only team. In addition, almost half of them finished last place in their division.

Only 12 out of the 32 teams in the NFL finished with more wins than losses (7 in the AFC and 5 in the NFC). That means 20 teams finished 8-8 or with losing records. The NFL is a watered down league.

Let me add:

2-4 in our division
6-6 in our conference

Guess the only team with a record above .500 that the Eagles beat this year?

Your point is one I have been making for quite some time....how do we perform against good teams...that is what you use as a barometer to monitor team progress....we lost to Jacksonville, we lost to Philly twice (neither game was close)....we split with the Giants, but I would argue they played better than us in the 2 games combined.....we got the dog crap beat out of us against the saints, we allow Micheal Vick to throw 4 TDs against us...we allow a converted safety for the lions to outplay TO and Glenn...I could go on and on

And the reason we beat the Colts was that at the time they were super one dimensional meaning and exceptional offense compensating for a dysfunctional run stopping defense.

Actually, we were getting ready to tie the game at Philly until Bledsoe threw that fatal int in the endzone that was returned for a TD.

Don't bust a blood vessel by over-thinking this past season. We have to go through some struggles and eventually learn how to win. There have been several freakish things that happened this year. We will get better.

And yet, with 1:19 left in the football game, we all thought we stood an excellent chance of being 1 of the final 4 teams in the NFC with a pretty decent shot against Chicago. We played better than our losses in a few heartbreakers...the final month was the only time we really looked like we didn't belong, and then we made a nice appearance versus Seattle.

The NFL equals parity. That's exactly what they wanted.

Yea, we actually battled back and played pretty well in that game. If I remember correctly, we turned the ball over and got down 10-0 pretty quick. We came back and was on the goal line on the last play of the game with a chance to tie.

There are only about 2 really good teams this year- SD and the Ravens; the Pats, Chicago and the rest all have big holes. In this age of FA, the Cap and PARITY that is pretty much to be expected.
