Washington won it. Seriously. Look, a lot of us are really upset, shocked and frustrated right now. We did some horrible things (a lot of short passes on third downs....I think Parcells is seriously overestimating the YAC ability of guys like Witten; penalties at inopportune times; missed FG, etc.). But so did Washington.
BUT, at the end of the day, this was the type of game Parcells wanted. Low scoring and manageable. We were leading 13-0 deep into the 4th quarter. Defense was playing solidly, creating pressure. Offense was playing low-risk football. Like it or not, that's how Parcells builds his team. Always has and always will. He had the game right where he wanted it.
THEN, Brunell makes two perfect passes. One with the pressure right in his face. Sure, Roy Williams wasn't deep enough. But any pass less than perfect, and he tips the ball and breaks it up. I don't expect Roy to be perfect. He had a good game (heck, maybe a great game), sans those two deep passes.
Was Brunell lucky? Maybe. But Washington won the game, fair and square. Our defense played great save for 2 great passes, and I'll take that any game.
Am I frustrated right now? Hell yeah. This will sting for quite some time. But there's nothing that I saw tonight which suggests that we haven't improved a lot since last year. Just 3-4 inches less on each of those two passes, and we may have handed Gibbs a shutout, and everyone would be gushing at our team. But they got the breaks, they got the inches. Maybe they're lucky. Maybe, after 14 of 15, it's the law of averages rearing its ugly head. Maybe this is a good lesson for a young team. Whatever it was, at the end of the day, I don't think we lost this game. The Skins won it.
My two cents. Everyone try to get some sleep.
