We drafted the wrong type receiver for Tony Romo

I think that has a lot more to do with a lack of a quality O-Line and anything. He prefers those types because he knows he has to get the ball out very quickly to avoid being killed, or running for his life, with the O-lines we've had here most of his career.

You can see he's clearly starting to love using Beasley on a regular basis.

Romo is like every qb, the only WR they like is an open receiver, if they can see it.

Patrick Crayton ran a very slow 40 time but did a great job of getting quick separation due to his knowledge of zones and coverage. He was our version of Hines Ward.

Patrick Crayton couldn't carry Hines Ward's jockstrap.

Terrell Owens and Dez have been the two most successful Wrs with Romo at QB--I'd say he like that style of WR just fine.

I the last 16-17 games, maybe some of you guys need to look up Dez Bryant's stats.
They are near the very top in the league.

I think you missed my point. Tony loved T.O. not because he could high point the ball or make spectacular catches in traffic. He liked him because he was able to get quick separation from the coverage. Dez does not really do this very well. He rounds off his routes and and rarely gets open quickly.

Why do you think so many fans are frustrated that Romo is content to go to another option rather than give Dez more opportunities in one-on-one situations? Even Jerry has mentioned on a couple of occasions that a Tony needs to throw it up to Dez even if he is covered. Tony Romo clearly prefers a Terry Glenn type to a Larry Fitzgerald type receiver.

im on board for sure.

I think thats why they drafted escobar, though...FAST TE to try and get separation.

No. Escobar isn't that at all. He's a slow-use his size type of TE. Doesn't create separation.

It goes back to the philosophy of the offense.

Look for the open man and never go to your horses even when they are covered.

I'll never get why we don't take shots to Dez down the sideline 2 or 3 times a game at least.

Letting the defense dictate where the ball goes all the time just sucks and Im sick of watching it.

Dez is the king of back shoulder catches. He was destroying corners last season catching those.

Why can't we see what our quarterback is and give him the type of weapon he prefers? Shouldn't the organization be doing everything it can to make our quarterback the most effective? I love Dez Bryant as a receiver but if Tony needs to see him running open before throwing him the ball we will never see the best of Bryant here as long as Romo is our quarterback.

I think you're sadly underestimating Romo's ability. Romo doesn't have to see a receiver running open, that's for college QBs (or bad NFL quarterbacks). Romo is one of the very best at anticipating that a guy is going to get open. In fact, it's uncanny how good he is at that. Love the camera angles that show downfield from a QB's perspective. Shows you just how chaotic it is out there and just how good Romo is at deciphering it.

It's the lousy scheme more so than the players. Most of big plays since JG took full control of the offense has come from broken plays where Romo does his thing more so than by play design.

There was a thread few weeks back where someone (hairirc?) posted the All-22 clips of our offense. You can see from it how bad our route combinations were and why our receivers have hard time getting open quickly.

the biggest difference in the TO/Crayton days is that there was a lot more motion by those WRs and many of their passes were in the middle of the field. For what ever reason, very few passes are directed to the middle of the field. The defense has a lot less field to defend when the middle of the field is ignored.
