We essentially have a new DC

With Richards calling the defense we now have a new DC. The results in the confidence, scheme, and
aggressiveness of the defense are incredible. Richards is dialing up blitzes like we have not seen from Marinelli. Marinelli always being a more conservative type and typically like to try and get pressure with 4 lineman and playing a cover zone. IT cant be overstated how much an impact better coaching has had on this defense. The players are virtually the same. We can point to Jaylon being better and an uptick in the effectiveness of Taco, but other then that, this is essentially the same squad as last year. Gregory and Irvin not really having an impact yet this year.

Early results are positive for sure. I’m interested in seeing how they do against one of the best QBs in the league. Wilson can hurt them in a lot of different ways— if the D thumps the Seattle offense and limits Wilson to pedestrian numbers— then the hype train starts rolling at a whole other level.

Richard’s impact is easy to see and I am excited that he’s a huge part of our defensive philosophy and playcalling

Seattle has a worse Oline than the Giants, no run game to speak of, and their best WR is out. This is NOT a great offense. Although Wilson can certainly perform magic towards the end of games. This defense wont get a true test for a few weeks.

Richards getting the title next years seems likely.
Defense does look aggressive and quick.
Please Marinelli stay as DL guru
I agree. Marinelli can coach up a player. I just hate the prevent. If Richard actually calling the Defense plays. If he is then shame on him last week for letting off the pedal. No more prevent. It prevents us from shutting them out.

Recognizing players strengths to get the best results in his scheme in the secondary has been his biggest contribution. The play calling was a given. Not having to wait to find players to fit his scheme was not a given.

The most obvious difference (to me) is the defensive backs TURNING THEIR HEADS AROUND right before the ball gets to the receiver............I can't even remember how many times over the last decade I have yelled at the TV for our corners and safeties to look for the ball......................

wish we had a new OC too. Anyone ready to see what kellen moore can draw up lol

You and I both, my friend.

Marinelli needs to be just a memory. He was not a very good defensive coordinator. He used personnel poorly and his schemes were easily beaten. I will not miss him. Sayonara.

Not to knock our defense, as I’m loving the ramped-up aggressiveness, but Seattle’s given up six sacks in each of their 2 games (a league-leading 12, total), which shows their O-line to be an absolute sieve and that Russell Wilson, while arguably slightly better and certainly more mobile than 37yo Eli, hasn’t yet been able to avoid the pass rush and make anything happen with his legs.

Wilson’s got no dependable running game to take the pressure off, he’s missing his #1 WR (Doug Baldwin, sprained MCL) and, if we get an early lead, the only way he can keep up is by throwing the ball — making it that much easier for our DL to tee-off on him.

Against Seattle’s moribund offense, anything other than a shutout, or maybe a single FG allowed, really won’t be all that impressive.

Richards is what we need at the Head Coach position, I’m really hoping this offense gets going , we can definitely make a run if it happens.

The ultimate goal is to win the game, not a shut out. The prevent defense is the way to go if your trying to win.

I don't know if I'd go that far....................He did invent the "Tampa 2" , didn't he ? And it is still referred to by that name , isn't it ? But I do agree with you as far as him staying on with the Cowboys ; he's definitely not needed and is a detriment IMO....................

Tom landry invented the flex defense. But like the dinosaurs, it had its time and then became extinct. Same for the tampa 2. And i think it was monte kiffen who invented it.

Bottom line is you still need superior athletes for any scheme to work I guess........................As I stated in an earlier post , the fact our DB's are now looking for the damn ball when it's in the air is a HUGE DIFFERENCE from recent seasons past.............That alone elevates Richards above Marinelli.............
