We get a public holiday tomorrow for a horse race, how awesome is that?

Me too!

The whole idea is ludicrous but who am I to complain about getting a day off for a 2 mile horse race. Are there any similar in state type of public holidays like this in the U.S or anywhere else for that matter?

Bank holidays that only govt employees get tend to tick us off, but we have a few. Super Bowl Sunday is the closest thing to a sporting holiday we recognize nationally.

Only thing with that Aikbach is that Superbowl is on a Sunday ie. weekend when most of us enjoy the day off anyway, the Melbourne Cup is always on the first Tuesday in November ie. a day off during the working week. It's a tradition that I hope is with us for many years to come.
