We Got What We Wanted

A lot of us talked about how yesterday’s game was a win-win. Either we make the playoffs or we fire JG. And for the most of us who understand that JG’s ceiling is the divisional (as that’s the point in the season where coaching has the biggest impact as everyone is talented), going to the playoffs was a hollow victory.

So to that I say, guys we got what we wanted. Yeah it sucks more in the moment and days after it happens, but in order for Garrett to be gone we had to lose a classic JG game. One of my biggest fears was Garrett getting to the playoffs, and some fluke occurrence happens and he has a legit excuse. You gotta hit the bottom to get to the top, in what world would we get JG fired, make the playoffs, and all be happy about how far the team went? I’d rather lose now and get a good pick and this coaching search started than lose in a month and have to worry about if Garrett gets retained.

Also, I know we just lost an ugly one but all this talk that the roster wasn’t ever even good is just regency bias. Our personnel isn’t perfect, but guys we lost all games this year that where decided by 7 or fewer. Ineptitude in the kicking game (most weeks before Kai), in-game management (Viking game comes to mind), under-preparation (practicing indoors when we knew NE would be cold and rainy), and ridiculous discretion (pass when we should run, run when we should pass, personnel packages, snap counts) had ALOT more to do with 7-8 than the roster did. This team could’ve been 11-5 this season and locked up the East in November. And that’s not some homer hype, it’s the same ish that’s afflicted us for 10 years. All those 8-8 seasons looked a lot like this, all those rosters where different. We know who the main culprit is here. The players didn’t play the way they are capable of but this season has been a JG special.

I want to end with saying that those who think this team needs a full reboot, complete roster teardown, and 3-year rebuild are prisoners of the moment. Are there decisions to make? Yeah. But you get a real staff in here and this team wins double digits. IF and it’s a big if, the right decisions are made in hiring a coach and filling out the staff, along with solid personnel and drafting decisions this offseason. This team can start 2020 right in the mix. This is the NFL, teams can go from 4-12 to 13-3 in an offseason. This team can compete next year with a better staff and I am confident of that.

Can’t wait to see “Jason Garrett will not be with the Cowboys in 2020” on the breaking news ticker!
