I was intrigued by the Mendenhall opportunity, but it was a matter of fit. I mean, Barber is awesome, love him, but he's not Emmitt Smith. The team believes he's not an everydown back. Now if you are gonna trade Barber or make him to backup, then you pick Mendenhall. And then you watch the forum blast off about what a waste regarding Barber after what he has shown. Can't win.
We needed another PLAYMAKER. Now if Jones runs 10 times and returns 4 kicks and lines up for 3-4 catches. This is a weapon with his playing speed. Immediate impact and a threat. Needs to get stronger though, but that will come.
This makes total sense.
I need to catch up with what happened with all the trades day 2, but I think Jones is a WOW player. If there was one dude with explosiveness in return game and a 7 yard or so YP carry that equals WOW potential and threat.
I'm guessing the team didn't see value in some of the mid round guys and/or is stockpiling some picks for some trading either this offseason or next years draft (Jerry can't help himself, it's not worth killing yourself over, he's not gonna change that wildcatter in him).
