We are now using a new system to maintain security and help users maintain access to their accounts. The purpose of the new system is to help members maintain access to their account by making sure their email addresses are up to date and working correctly on a regular basis.
Because CowboysZone has been online for so long, we have a lot of members who have been here for years and of course many of us have switched email addresses over the years. That has led to some members losing access to their accounts, usually at the worst times such as game days, but also when they switch to or setup new devices. Our goal is to help everyone maintain access to their accounts so that never happens.
It is important to keep your account email address updated because you may have to login again one day and you forgot your password. It is also important due to potential security issues. Like most other sites, if the site was ever compromised in some way, we would disable all current account passwords and every user would have to set a new password by clicking a link in emails sent to their email addresses.
We do not just hand accounts to users, who claim to be locked out, for security reasons. Unless we can verify who the user is, the account email address is the only way they will be able to regain access to their account. That may mean you lose years of post history, counts, etc. all because your email address was not accurate.
So, right now, everyone should go make sure their email address is accurate by going to your Contact Details page!
