We Have No Offensive Identity

It's become perfectly clear, now. We have absolutely zero offensive identity. We don't know if we want to run the ball to set up the pass, or pass the ball in a west coast style offense.

Without the ability to consistently drive the ball and put points on the board - EVEN FIELD GOALS - we will not see success against even bad football teams. Turnovers and penalties are a part of the game, but we don't do anything to negate those mistakes in the way of moving the football consistently and scoring points.

We have arguably the best collection of talent in the NFC, our offensive line even showed up today and protected Romo, but the scheme and the play calling is dumbfounding. I just don't understand why we call some of the plays we call:

- Felix consistently contained IN THE BACKFIELD yet we kept trying to run what looked like double misdirection to him.

- Shotgun handoff to Barber against a group of some of the most athletic linebackers in the game.

- We also run the shotgun probably more than any other team in the NFL yet we rarely, IF EVER, take any shots more than 20 yards down the field.

These are just a few that stood out in my mind. I'm sure the "knowledgable" football fans will come here and spin this, or blame it on something else, and I'm usually the last person to get this pissed off about it but it's clear that this coaching staff is just not cutting the mustard. I'd normally lambaste a troll or a chicken little for predicting a .500 season, but right now after two horrible showings to two sub par teams, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't finish any better than 8-8 or 9-7.

Even if we win this game by some miracle, I still stand by my comments.

I'm REALLY down on garrett after this game

We have a an identity.

Drive easily down the field. Then run two dumb play calls that don't work. Then commit a penalty. Then miss a FG.

That's our identity.

we get yds in the middle of the field, but the closer we get, the less options we have...teams do NOT respect this offense

All teams have been doing is running 2-deep zone against this team, preventing the big play and giving the underneath. Once we get to the red-zone, it becomes patently obvious that our play-calling is just crappy... Major yardage and no points over and over again....

As sad as that is, you're 100% right on

To many penalties and turnovers. Playcalling doesn't matter when you have pre-snap penalties and turnovers like we do.

Nothing we can do from an X and O perspective will change our offense. ITs all on the penalties.

I can't believe you guys can't see that.

We move easily down the field, becomes teams are just set on not giving up the big play, defending 2 deep zone. Then Garrett's real play calling ability shines through...

The difference between the 2 teams is most evident in how Mike Martz totally outcoach Garrett...

We get penalties because Garrett has us in shotgun all day, against the very bread and butter of this offensive line... when your play calling is chaotic, your penalties start to grow... Cutler was throwing INTs all last year and this year, it just shows how much good play calling can do...

Really? Hmm Thats interesting. Shotgun leads to penalties? Nice logic.

I see a team that is one dimensional and stupid to boot. I think both are drive-killing, team killing problems

Yes we do....it's Pass.

And especially if we get down by ANY margin. That is the history on JG. There is absolutely NO denying that as I have been saying that since he took over play-calling duties.

Not blaming him entirely on it as I like the play-calling in the first half.

But, that whas when we had some nice drives that included the run.

The blocking was just terrible when we were running though. Didn't see as many delayed draws today which was odd.

It can, when your OL is big and it's major weakness is quick lineman. It leads to trying to jump the gun to prevent being ran around by these quicker men. It creates a better angle for these lineman to attack...

When Felix Jones averages less than 1 ypc, it's on the OC.

How frickin obvious is it that every time he gets a touch it's going to be either a delay or something stupid with guys pulling all over the place. Go forward, let hiim find a hole.

We down have manageable downs and distances to run a balanced offense.

We can drive up and down the field until we have a drive killing penalty.

IT's every single drive.

Felix Jones...fewer touches this week than last.

By week 10 he'll have zero touches.....:bang2:

So now its the type of run it was. You're just 2nd guessing a playcall. Easy to do. Anyone can do it and Cowboyszone is the king of it. Every single play that doesn't work some genius says well they should've called this instead.

If it's not as clear as day to you now that penalties and turnovers is what is killing this team and not X's and O's than I don't know what to tell you guys. Its on yall if you can't figure that out.
