It's become perfectly clear, now. We have absolutely zero offensive identity. We don't know if we want to run the ball to set up the pass, or pass the ball in a west coast style offense.
Without the ability to consistently drive the ball and put points on the board - EVEN FIELD GOALS - we will not see success against even bad football teams. Turnovers and penalties are a part of the game, but we don't do anything to negate those mistakes in the way of moving the football consistently and scoring points.
We have arguably the best collection of talent in the NFC, our offensive line even showed up today and protected Romo, but the scheme and the play calling is dumbfounding. I just don't understand why we call some of the plays we call:
- Felix consistently contained IN THE BACKFIELD yet we kept trying to run what looked like double misdirection to him.
- Shotgun handoff to Barber against a group of some of the most athletic linebackers in the game.
- We also run the shotgun probably more than any other team in the NFL yet we rarely, IF EVER, take any shots more than 20 yards down the field.
These are just a few that stood out in my mind. I'm sure the "knowledgable" football fans will come here and spin this, or blame it on something else, and I'm usually the last person to get this pissed off about it but it's clear that this coaching staff is just not cutting the mustard. I'd normally lambaste a troll or a chicken little for predicting a .500 season, but right now after two horrible showings to two sub par teams, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't finish any better than 8-8 or 9-7.
Even if we win this game by some miracle, I still stand by my comments.
