2007 Record: 13-3
2008 Media Narrative: TO imploded, players picking sides
2009 Record: 11-5
2010 Media Narrative: Coaching turmoil, Wade Phillips lost the team.
2014 Record: 12-4
2015 Media Narrative: Greg Hardy is tearing the team apart, constant side show.
2016 Record: 13-4
2016 Media Narrative: Ezekiel Elliott side show which will surely evolve as the season goes on.
For the past 10 years since we have become a competitive team again, we have been absolutely unable to string together winning seasons. It seems like whenever we taste success, the media, amongst other factors, work to change the narrative and create a side show in Dallas.
This Ezekiel Elliott situation has the potential to create a chemistry issue with this team. Last season, Elliott was the life of the locker room, full of life and this year...he seems distracted. The off the field drama could justifiably be weighing on him. The media has taken notice and if this team lets it...this situation could boil over and the media could once again assist in writing the story for this team and keeping us from achieving the long term success that so many fans crave.
These stories don't always have to be accurate but when you're dying for ratings as ESPN and other sports based media are, if there is any blood in the water, you can guarantee the media will over exaggerate it. This week it is "Dak is a JAG" and "Zeke quit on his team". Give it time and we will start hearing stories how "players are sick or Zeke's antics" or "Cowboy players secretly want Romo back". This is just too predictable at this point.
Is Garrett aware of the storm brewing if any part of the Broncos loss becomes a trend?
The honeymoon is over, he media is looking for blood. The only way to stop the narrative is to win and not let the media tear this team apart.
