This RT spot is killing me. I just really think we are in a bad spot here.

1. I have now given up on Rogers. I hate to say this, but he just can not be counted on. I really feel bad for him, but we have to move on here with some one more reliable.

2. Tucker! OMG he sucks. No way he makes the roster, no way!

3. I just do not feel comfortable with Vollers at RT. He is a quality back up, but not a quality starter.

4. Petitti, well he has really been put in a bad spot here. He is a rookie trying to learn a new position, has a bum ankle, and is just trying to learn the ropes. I love his upside, but unless he really improves in the next couple of weeks it is just asking to much, especially with Bledsoe at QB.
I have been on his bandwagon since we drafted him, and still am, but I think he really could benefit from a year of development and working on his technique. This is nothing negative regarding Petitti, just being realistic and looking out for his and the teams best interest.

We have to act now! I say we do 1 of 2 things.

Either sign Scott Bragg, or move LA to RT, and Peterman to LG.

I was really encouraged what I saw from Peterman last night. He really looked good handling his man. He really gets good leverage in both run blocking and pass protection, and is plain nasty at times. I would like to see him up against a first team defense, and I would also like to see LA at RT to see if he can still play it. Don't forget he used to be a good one.

Lets just try it in a couple of Pre-Season games and see what it looks like. Shoot it can not hurt to take a look.

We would be better off waiting until the final cuts to see who is available. That way we have better quality of RT's to choose from. If we panic now, we may not get as good of a player as we can then. Besides. Vollers is serviceable and Petitti is improving. Give them 2 weeks to show what they can do.

:signmast:

It's still early, but the question at right tackle outstrips that of free safety or #3 receiver. It's imperative that Bledsoe have five guys in front of him who can pass block.

I really do not think any of us need 2 weeks to see what Vollers can do. We know what he is, a quality backup.

Petitti may be better in 2 weeks, but I just think that is way to much to put on his shoulders considering how important it is to protect Bledose. While it would seem very easy to move from LT to RT, it is a very hard transition. It would be like being a right handed golfer, and trying to swing left handed in a couple weeks, very hard. I know Petitti is going to be a good one, but why put that on him if we do not have to.

Lets look at LA at RT, and put Peterman at LG. What can it hurt? Nothing!

In terms of waiting it could go the other way as well. Gragg could get scooped up, and there easily could be only scrubs availble after the cuts.

We can sign Gragg, for a 1 year contract at the minimum and cut him if a better option comes along.

Shoot, I would be all for signing Gragg and cutting Tucker right now. At minimum it is much better depth, and a good back up plan. Then everything is not on Petitti, and let the best man win.

I wouldn't have a problem with that at all. If that is the direction BP feels we need to go I'm all over it. He knows more about the situation than I do that is for sure.

I'll trust BP on this one...I think he's comfortable with Tucker and Vollers, believe it or not...otherwise, why wouldn't he have at least tried to bring someone in...after last year, there's no way he was counting on starting Rogers anyway...that kid started so far down the chart it isn't funny...it was a pleasant surprise that he was playing well enough to start...we're just back where we were.

Personally, I have predicted Vollers as the starter all along.

Vollers is a nice back up, settling on him for starters means this year will be problemmatic like last. Our O-line should be the NUMBER ONE priority over everything. Rivera helps but...where's the depth??? O-line go down at some point or another.

I usually back BP but I'm beginning to doubt his line choices. I'm noticing he has been bringing in these undersized guys (Noll, Peterman, Al J.), putting his faith in projects or mediocre guys (Vollers, Tucker, Gurode-though AG is back at Center where he belongs) and drafting big lineman that can't change sides. If changing sides is such a big deal, then keep it in mind when drafting these guys (Jacob, Petite).

Without an O-line even Julius can't make things happen (see the penetration in the backfield last night). I'm ramblin cuz I'm frustrated and I think we all saw this RT thing coming a mile away...hopefully JJ/BP have a backup plan (and NO don't move LA).

The kiss of death will be if Rivera's back does not hold up...it will be like Gennaro revisited...

pasted from the other RT panic post:

Funny how 1 preseason game is not enough on which to judge a QB, or 3, but 1 vanilla offensive game plan in the first preseason game is enough to panic over a RT...doesn't that seem a tad silly?

Before training camp, no one was even expecting Rogers to start...he was an afterthought and people were wondering if he'd even make the team...suddenly he has a good couple of weeks and gets to start the preseason game.

We do have other options, you know, and I don't mean Tucker. Vollers was our starter for the final 3 games last year, and I still predict him to be starting at RT this season.

We might find some depth, but believe me when I tell you we aren't going to find a quality starting RT when other teams start cutting players...that's ridiculous. A guy who can't make the top 10 OL on another team is going to be our savior at RT???? Won't happen.

If Tucker washes out at Tackle, don't look for him to be cut unless it's because of his weight...the thing to do is to move him back to a position he's played before in college...guard. We used to regularly turn tackles like Gogan into guards.

regular season = Adams, Allen, Johnson, Rivera, Vollers

Rogers may still come around with his health. He may work hard to recover the confidence he seemed to have just a week ago.

Petitti could learn a lot faster than people think too. Parcells is not opposed to starting young linemen. I think he feels like that with Rivera and Campbell likely flanking the RT, he can survive.

I'm probly the only one but after watching Tucker and Pettiti in last night game. I think one of them will be a decent RT this season. Both have the size a strength that is need for this position, Pettiti just needs reps and Tucker just need to concentrate, but that might be asking alot from that guy. As, for Mr.Glass Rodgers, he's done, Parcell is not going to count on some guy who cannot stay on the field for more then one game.
