Thank you! This was a great singing.

In 3-4 years we could trade him for a 1st, easily. He has the potential and ability to be a longterm starter in this league, a great starter infact.
QB MATT NICHOLS - (Eastern Washington) - Has signed a Free Agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys.....Bureau Grade: 4 STARS (*404.93).

This guy has been my pet cat for a while, i've said multiple times he is my favorite QB & prospect in this draft, the fact that he is now a Cowboy makes me more excited than winning the lottery, since we kinda just did win a lottery. Welcome to Dallas Matt.

this guy will be working at home depot wayyy before Romo retires

If I said Romo would be our QB of the future in 03, you would've said the same thing.
If I said Miles Austin would be our #1 WR in 2009 in 2006, you would've said the same thing.

What can you tell us about him?

Went undrafted because he went to a small school and he doesn't have prototype measurables, but all he does is move the football. Amazingly accurate. Reads the entire field. Smart. Natural leader. 4 year starter and racked up unreal stats. Headed up a lot of pre-draft sleeper lists. Threw for 33 TDs and just 6 INTs last year.

If there's actually an open competition, I think he could beat out McGee. But the Cowboys aren't going to hold an open competition because they invested a 3rd rounder in McGee.

Matt Nichols is likely the true sleeper QB in this draft. He has amassed amazing stats in almost four full seasons as a starter at Eastern Washington and he has shown great maturity over the years.

He has very good passing technique with a tight spiral and good zip. He is skilled taking the ball under center or in the shot-gun and is good at game management. Nichols has solid height at 6'3" but could use a bit of added size and strength to his upper body in order to develop a really NFL-caliber long ball.

Where he really excels is on mid-range passes as he has a very good release, can get the ball to his target with ease, and has good ball placement allowing his receivers to make the most out of the pass. Scouts will question his clutch decision making, his ability to throw accurately on the run, and how well he will adjust to NFL defensive schemes, but at the end of the day some team will take a chance on Nichols expecting to groom him as a back-up who has a lot of potential to be a starter in the NFL some day.

Nichols should expect to hear his name called somewhere around the mid 4th round; however with the experience, talent, and potential he brings he may slide into the early parts of the 3rd round after some good workouts and scouts really getting an idea of his potential to get even better.

Our successor to Romo is on the roster.

So let me get this straight, in a earlier thread you stated Romo has at least 7 good years left.

So by your math, we will not only sign Nichols to a contract, we will resign him and on top of that keep a NFL starting quality QB on the roster for 7 years so that he can make his first appearance at the age of 30.

Nichols can be the successor if we want him to be. He has the ability.

Does anyone have any stats on this kid? He is probably just a extra arm for OTA's

Probably so but the difference is that this guy isn't going to beat out Romo and with Romo not even 30 yet the likelyhood of this guy even being in the league, let alone with Dallas, by the time Romo retires are pretty slim.

He was making a run at most of Romos records .

Just soak these in:

33 TD, 9 int.
21 TD, 14 Int.
33 TD, 6 int.

Hes not just an arm, hes a player. He can beat out both Kitna and McGee if it is an honest competition. I guarantee it you all will be impressed during training camp.

Dude ive been a Nichols mark for a year. Ive posted like 50 times I want Nichols to be a Cowboy, Ive said he will be the best QB in this class like 20 times. Im happy, and you should be to.

let me help you bro, just say he is just like romo and hopefully we can groom him for 3-4 years and have a great back up that we can trade for a high pick in 3-4 years that we use to draft romos eventual successor

In R2A's defense. We could try to stash him on the back-end of the roster, develop him, and try to get a future draft pick for him. Or get a high draft pick for McGee.
