We lost Fowler and Armstrong and we only brought in Kneeland

What was the actual plan to get sacks and pressure on the QB this season? I know Williams went down and he was going to be a part of this but man.

Micah
Tank, where do we get sacks from and pressure. Both of these guys are known to get tired
I think with Williams going down, we'll see Golston/Fehoko more on run downs than we would have and Kneeland more on pass downs. More than likely our rushers will be on passing downs (Parsons, Odighizuwa, Lawrence and Kneeland).

I think with Zimmer using his Double-A gap blitz, one of the linebackers (probably Overshown) will get sent quite a bit to try to create pressure.

Based on what we've got, I think the rotation at end will be Lawrence, Kneeland, Parsons, Golston and Fehoko and the rotation at tackle will be Mazi, Odighizuwa, Golston and Fehoko. Maybe Rogers, Wheat, Johnson, Daxon or Davis will prove worthy of be added to that rotation, but I think if we're using them, we'll be reaching past the bottom of the barrel. Hope they prove me wrong.

We need some more USFL players.

Three thoughts.

1) We played last season without an all-pro CB. If we get him back, and stay healthy, that will be key to providing the pass rush the extra half-second or second to get home more often.

2) Tyrus Wheat came out of Mississippi State as a well-regarded pass rusher. Let's see what he's got.

3) Hard to imagine we don't dip into the free agent pool for, at least, some possible reinforcement. Total speculation, but if Guenther has any influence, might see Carl Lawson signed... one of his weapons while he was in Cincy.

Uhhhh you need to check the jersey sales bro. Armstrong and Fowler never even made the list. You gotta let those guys walk so you got the bucks to pay for the stars of the show.

No one can honestly and logically claim we had a good offseason.

This offseason was about one thing. Shedding payroll. That's it. It wasn't about getting better or fixing what ailed them. It was about treading water without having to pay for it (beyond signing the big three).

Yup. But the homers will have us believe this FO has put us in a great position to compete against all of the other teams who actually utilize free agency and get better in the off-season.

Why does Kneeland have to have Knee in his name?
It's almost predetermined now...
Which leads into the question, with Williams now out of the picture this season, do the Cowboys put all of their chips into a physical edge group with DeMarcus Lawrence and Marshawn Kneeland that will out-tough you with the caveat of the athletic specimen that is Micah Parsons? Or do they try to pair a similarly athletic pass rusher as to what Williams brought to the field to give Parsons a running mate?

Tyrus Wheat had 17.5 sacks in 3 seasons playing 34 outside LB in the SEC. That’s nothing to sneeze at especially in that division. They kept him on the active roster all last season protecting him from the practice squad pilch despite being heavy at the position while working on developing into a DE. I’m guessing they think he can at least provide some productive snaps!

So, Jane posted this...

... and 5 minutes later, took it down.

Hmmm. Obvious question, did she suddenly get new intel?

They think me and you could do the same they love everyone

They replaced them with Kneeland AND Sam Williams, who would have played a lot more snaps.

Big question with the free agent market is how many of these guys can still actually produce and how many are just names at this point without much production in recent years. Carl Lawon has barely played since 2020. Ngakoue has been horrible the last few years, although if its worth anything he did have 5 sacks in 5 games playing with Zimmer in 2020. If you were looking for a rotational run stuffing DE you could probably find that. The issue the Cowboys have is they really need someone who can get to the QB, and it's extremely rare to see those guys sitting at home this late in the offseason, as teams cant have enough good ones.

The best hope the Cowboys have is for someone on their depth chart to step up.

It is not possible to have sufficient backups at every position in today’s NFL. Especially when injuries hit. We needed the cap space for Dak, CeDee and Micah.

This is just another reason why I am predicting 6 wins this year. I just do not see how the defense is anywhere near as good as last year, and against GB it was awful.

A team can choose to have a top heavy roster, or it can choose to have a deep roster.

Too often in recent years (decades really), Dallas has had the former.

Exactly. They had their replacements in Kneeland and Williams. Williams just happened to get hurt in camp. life goes on. Fowler was a DQ guy. Armstrong signed with DQ's new team, 3 years for $33. He priced himself out of here. No way the Cowboys would/should resign him for those dollars. They are still trying to figure out how to sign Dak, Lamb and then Micah.
