We may be missing the biggest problem

I almost hate to say this but with the whole Romo-Bledsoe-offensive line deal, we may be overlooking an even bigger problem: the underperformance of our D.

They're not bad but they sure looked mediocre last night: for every great play by Ware and Ellis there were two duds elsewhere on the field. Tiki and Jacobs didn't destroy us but neither were we able to contain them. We got some pressure at times but not quite enough. And we gave up some pretty serious points.

I'm not a very excitable poster as some of you know. I council peace, calm and deep breaths. Having said that, though, I'm thinking there really is something to this GROZ movement.

I don't think out D played too bad last night. It's hard to complain when the offense keeps giving the ball away.

We must start to focus on coaching. There is waaaaay too much talent on this team to look like this, we get out-coached every time. I've seem H.S. OL's do a better job of blitz pick-up.

Old news.

Watkins needs to be a part time guy. He is not ready to start unless you want to give up big plays. As regards the front seven- I am totally at a blank to do. This D was set up to stuff the run and they did not. I think the talent is there- but I am questioning why they cannot seem to suck it up on the big plays and make some. We need a pass rush- and I am thinking that we need a lot more imagination as regarding our D. I think it is time for Zimmer to go.

I agree. I not going to bash Zimmer, however he is not creative with his blitzes and for some reason I question why he can't teach pass rushing skills to his players on D.

It wasn't "too bad" but it was "not good enough". We give up just enough big plays to keep us from having the potential to dominate. For every turnover we get, there are two or three more that we just miss -- I can think of off the top of my head three alone: a fumble that bounced around that was covered eventually by a Giants OL, a Bradie James drop, and a Watkins drop. And we follow up Ware getting to the QB with a blitz that just doesn't quite get to Eli in time.

We're not too bad. We're not good enough.

The biggest problem is Parcells, he authored this style of defense. We didn't need to go to the 3-4, we just needed to draft pass rushing DT's like the Bears did( Tommie Harris and Tank Johnson, Brod Bunkley and Kevin Williams).

Our defense kept the score at 12-7 last night going into the half. If you watched that game it should have been a blowout at that point. Our defense keeps bailing us out. Next week, Tony settles down and becomes the bus driver that can actually make plays. No longer will the defense have to bail us out.

Now you're catching on. I have been posting for 4 years we still have the same defensive problems we had when Campo was here: No pass rush, can't cover good WRs, can't stop the run. In fact, I posted the other day that the players Campo left took BP to the POs his first year here and BP got rid of ALL of them. Now we have to find a coach that can do something w/ a 3-4 and they are not that plentiful. I never really liked Bill Cower, and he hasn't accomplished that much, but he'd be my choice to replace BP. (I don't think Belichek will leave NE)...

In the Cowboy's 3 losses they have turned the ball over 12 times . In the Cowboy's 3 wins they have turned the ball over twice . Their lack of production has little to do with the defense . Cut out the turnovers by the offense and Dallas will win ball games .

so what the offense turned the ball over! Go get it back? Stop dropping interceptions that hit you in the hands. Hold a team to a FG. All of our 1st round picks and the majority of our free agent dollars are spent on defense. Not to mention Parcells is a defensive guy. This unit should be covering for all the street free agent late round picks on offense.

I'm not making excuses for the D, because they shouldn't have gotten run over like they did. But did anyone else feel like the air came out out of the entire stadium when Romo threw that pick on his first throw? I got that feeling. The crowd seemed stunned and got very quiet all of a sudden, and that's when the D seemed to lack energy. It wasn't until the Romo TD drive that the stadium, including the players, got any energy back.

Again, that's not to excuse the D, but last night was a Twilight Zone-type moment that threw everything off, IMO.

Bill wants the team to just man up and play it simple....

Well....his talented defence is getting manhandled

Canty and Spears have been a disappointing IMHO....

our ILB arent a force...

and our safties arent playing well in coverage....

Bill likes to play a vanilla defence.....

Thank you, thank you thank you. You have put into words what I am thinking, what the hell is wrong with our D. We should have a stout as hell D, but we have a buttersoft D instead. :bang2: :bang2: :bang2:

The defense...really the entire team, lacks fire and passion in their play. When is the last time our team looked "fired up" in any phase of the game? That, to me, is one big reason we seem to be a mediocre team. Philly came out breathing fire, NYFG came out breathing fire...the 'Boys came out barely breathing at all! That, to me, is an indictment of the coaching staff. Our team has taken on the personality of our sleepy coaching staff. I realize you can't come out and play in a frenzy and lose scheme discipline, but come on! A little fire and emotion would be nice to see now and then.

Yeah... Wow... he aint ready for full time. You gotta wonder about his coverage and tackling and flat out seeing the ball...

Davis should prob atleast be splitting time with him.
