We may have the coaching and players to fix our run D, but Suh would have made it so much easier!

Last week with only 1-2 days of practice Joseph and Suh played a MAJOR roll for Philly in the 4th quarter, in shutting down the Colts running game.

If we would have picked up Suh, for chump change, it not only would have made our D line rotation MUCH stronger against the run, but it also would have kept him from Philly, or any other playoff team. I wish Jerry would have made the move for Suh!

I still think our run D can improve( see the Colts when Payton Manning won the Superbowl. Their run D was historically bad, during the regular season, but they played excellent run D in the playoffs and Super Bowl).
I don’t think our run D will become dominant, but with the help of some creative coaching( timely run blitz’s etc.) and defensive players just doing THEIR jobs, I think the run D has the potential to improve greatly and help us win the Superbowl. Gallimore, Hankins, and Bohannan definitely have the body types to play the run effectively.

This year, in particular, has a bunch of excellent running teams. We better improve vs the run if we want to do anything in the playoffs!!

Will we improve vs the run?

Yes, and he signed cheap too.

You trust the coaches?

then trust the fact that they could have had suh since September and passed.

As fans we sometimes think we see things that end up not being reality
Yet, since September, our D has been getting gashed up the gut with the run. Clearly, our coaching staff has dropped the ball on more than one occasion this year (letting John Ridgeway go to the Commanders and not picking up Suh before he got picked up by the Eagles).

Those who succeed, do. Those who fail, refuse to do.

Hankins was supposed to be one of the best run stuffers out there. The biggest issue right now is the gaps between our DL. Quinn has them playing at pass rushing spacing even on early downs. That alignment gets the Cowboys gashed by power traps and inside zones.

You didn’t see Suh help stuff the Colts run game did you?

I trust the coaches sometimes, but they are far from perfect. Example: I definitely would have started Pollard vs Minnesota. Zek’s 1st run went for 4 yards. Pollard very likely would have taken it for 10-30 yards. Pollard should have played 80% of the game in the 1st 3 quarters with Zek pounding them in the 4th quarter.

OMG, the coaches were so terrible at Minnesota. The Cowboys only won, 40-3.

Great example.

No way Pollard would have taken that for 10 or more yards.
Pollard is good but don’t over exaggerate.
Heck he may have got only 2 yards.

Watch it again. Pollard makes so many 7-12 yard runs up the middle because he gets to the hole quicker and he is REALLY good at putting a juke on the defender in the hole. In my opinion, vs Minnesota, Pollard made 2 or 3 runs up the middle where he gained 3-10 yards more than Zek would have. There is a reason Zek averages 3 yards less than Pollard per carry.

The coaches were great vs Minnesota, but just because they were great does not mean I agreed with every move.

I love to see us win regular season games, but I am looking at the big picture. If we do not improve our run D our playoff run will be short.

You thought Zek starting was the correct decision?
You think our run D is playoff ready after the Minnesota game?
I say no to both, but still think we played a great game.

OMG, do you have comprehension issues?

Two things can be true at the same time.
The coaches coached a great game, but Pollard should have started and Zek should have been the finisher.

Also, great game, but the run D still needs to improve!

That is part of the issue, but we also have some guys that get off blocks slow, and some guys who react to the play to slowly. They don’t anticipate where the play is going( Sean Lee).

I'm not sold that this 35 year old would have helped much but I have to respect him.

The guy is made out of iron. In his 12 year career he missed only two starts and that was a 2 game suspension. That's old school durability. you just don't see that in today's NFL, especially from a DT..

you should watch the all 22 of the eagles game. Suh was very good, the other DT was even better. Much better than Hankins.

I think it will be tough. They just don't have the DTs and the LBs aren't really that good against the run except for chasing guys down with their speed. Unfortunately Suh played well and the other DT Joseph was even better. Much better than Hankins. Joseph was double teamed constantly and held his own.
