We Miss Ellis more than we reliase. He was/is a good player and maybe we should have held on to him until we KNEW we had a proven replacement. Of course hind site is aways 20/20

I don't know exactly what is the problem with the pass rush, but improvement by Spencer would go a long way to solving the problem. If we are struggling because Ellis is gone, then yes, I for one underestimated his importance to the defense because, quite frankly, he just didn't seem to make that much of a difference. I don't mean his production. He had a fine career here. I mean the notion that he couldn't be replaced with what we already had.

Well, seeing as he has three sacks himself for the Raiders and we have NONE as a team, that is a good assumption...

I never really understood the hate for Greg Ellis.

Yes, the guy whined quite a bit and probably held Jerry Jones hostage a few years ago to get a new contract.

However, the guy was a very solid player and even made a successful transition to Linebacker.

He had 8 Sacks in 2008 and 12.5 in 2007.

I don't see how someone can say you won't miss that kind of production at some point in the Season.

Yes, we needed to get Anthony Spencer on the field and therefore, we had to let Greg Ellis go.

However, that fact doesn't mean we don't miss his production.

This team misses Ellis on the field and in the locker room. Yes, he wined and complained. Yes, he pouted. He also produced which is something I hope Spence can do with more game time.

Sacks

Ellis- 3
Dallas D- 0

Says alot, and it sure doesn't hurt that Ellis is playing beside R. Seymour.

I corrected your title. No worries, I am probably the worst speller here.

How many sacks does he have Oakland so far? I think it's something like 3 in two games...

After two games we miss Ellis, but IMHO by mid season you won't hardly remember why, Spencer or Johnson one will have come on and the D will be back in the sack business big time, now turnovers and Romo are two totally different stories, but sack wise it will turn around I believe........

I agree. There isn't enough complaining about complaining now that he is gone. :lmao2:

I hated to see Ellis go but the team felt it was time to move on without him. It is Spencer job and he is going to have to find a way of becoming a bigger impact player than he has thus far.

At the time of his release I was one of the very few on here who said we would miss his play on the field and now people are just coming out of the wood works.

I will say this... If you watch Spencer with a close eye and not just glance at the stat sheet you'd be surprised with how well he is actually playing.

He'll get his.

Not worried at all. It's gonna take a little time. I wonder if this is what it was like for the Giants in the beginning of their super bowl season? As I recall, they went from worst to first by the end of the year.

Cowboys misses Ellis on pass rush. But this shows just how basic our defense is. When Ellis was here he couldn't do pass coverage. So teams knew he was rushing. So now your 3-4 was just a 4-3. Our LBs Spencer and Ware played line in college. Once they get the pass coverage down you can open up a lot more blitz packages to confuse the offense. Bradie James must improve on his pass rush when he blitzes. Cowboys must draft a impact ILB so this defense can be one of the elites in the NFL.

I think our bigger problem is lack of push up the middle than edge rushers. Ware and Spencer have been in the backfield but QBs have consistently had a pocket to step up into.

Teams aren't holding onto the ball either. They are running 3 step drops and getting the ball out.

Plus we haven't had a 2 score lead for a consistent period during a game. No need for the offense to throw downfield consistenly.

We are getting pressure. We just aren't getting sacks.
