I'm sorry but what is with all this talk about the confidence in Hurd, Austin, and Stanback?

TO makes #2's look like #1's, #3's look like #2's etc.
(see Crayton last year). He may have showed signs, but he is in no way a #2.

What has Hurd, etc shown you guys? Seriously! They are practicing without pads out there.

Now I know we have Witten, but imagine Crayton back where he belongs as a #3, and adding can I say a #2 receiver such as R Williams, wait he's a #1 isn't he? Imagine the TO formula for making a #1 into a ?

Food for thought guys, our offense would be potent, you all remember what happened when TO went down.. If we do have R Williams and TO went down we wouldn't be as potent, but we will still be dangerous.

WR is our weakness and keeping us for going over the hump.

Majority of you will be against this, but who agrees?

:horse:

lets talk about something new...like what to do with roy williams

We have a number two receiver, His name is Jason witten. He is as good as anyone at his position.

Terrell Owens and Jason Witten on the same field is more potent than 75% of what everyone else runs out there each week.

Crayton is outstanding at finding holes in zones and knowing where to be and when. We can win with those three.

then you add in hurd, austin, stanback, curtis and hopefully bennet and this team has enough weapons.

then you add in Barber, jones and choice and no one should be complaining about our offense.

We have enough tools to get the job done.

Someone explain to me why Crayton isnt a legit #2.

Look around the league. Not everyone has 2 superstar receivers.

Plus there is just about nothing Crayton cant do on the field.

He has improved every year and I expect nothing but improvement again this season.

I don't think there's necessarily "confidence" in our WRs outside of TO and possibly Crayton (I'm not counting Glenn right now). But right now, we realize we're probably going into the season with the guys we have.

Here's to hope.

And really, you have to sort of hope when you have young guys. There's some natural athletic ability with a lot of our guys.

Is that you, Matt Jones? Hmmmmm. Everybody wants to be a Cowboy.:lmao:

Witten is a good TE & indeed fills the #2WR spot but nobody has ever accused him of stretching the field. Crayton could increase his reception numbers & add a few more TDs but he's never going to be good enough to be seen by anyone (except Cowboy homers) as anything more then a #3.

Would love to see Austin really step it up this year; he's got all the talent but needs prove he can be consistent. Jury is still out until he can shows in TC/preseason games/regular season that he can consistently make the plays.

Sherman feels Stanback will contribute this year but enough that we can rest our hopes on him? Hmm.

Love Hurd. He's got good hands & doesn't run his mouth. Caught 20 pass in only his 2nd season & he's just 22 or 23 as he enters his 3rd season. Lack of speed & physical size probably limites him to #3 WR (possible Crayton's replacement in 2-3 years).

Left TO til last. He remains an elite WR as he approaches 35; only Randy Moss is in same league with him. Our other WRs can work around the minimal coverage they receive because other teams focus extensive attention on TO who, rightly so, scares them to death.

Point is I totally agree with the original poster we definitely need to find a legit #2 WR to replace Terry Glenn (hope he can return at same high level but don't like the odds he's stay healthy very long). Unless things heat up in Detroit, Arizona or Cincy, doesn't appear a #2 WR to play opposite TO will be available. We need to look under every rock necessary to find a WR who can help us. Remember, if TO goes down, our opponents then will focus their coverage on Witten & Crayton. While Witten can get the job done, I've got little confidence in the rather slow Crayton & Hurd. Romo is a raising QB but even he needs WRs who can get separation--his mobility in the pocket notwithstanding.

Yeah, Wit is #2 IN receptions. He isnt a #2 WR and doesnt run the routes TG may have. I'd like to replace TG with that type of player. Wit can remain #2 target.

Hurds a good Cowboy...

Food for thought that we've discussed ad nauseum here recently. Your new to the board so I would recommend going back and reading some of the older posts just to save the pain of opening old wounds and the ridicule that will run rampant....good luck. :D

Out of curiousity, how fast is Hurd?

I know he's not a speed option at WR, but is he around the same speed as Crayton?

The guys we have on our current roster who can stretch the field at WR are Stanback and Austin (outside of TO).

I guess we can line up Felix Jones on certain formations to isolate him on LBs and Safeties, but it would be ideal for either Stanback and/or Austin to make a mark this season.

I suppose this is the make or break season for Austin in any case. We'll have to see if he can hold on to the ball more consistently this year. He may just not have good hands.

Woods remarked that Austin just may not have the hands. No need to worry. In the last 10 years Cowboy fans have become used to WRs who've got size & speed but rarely do they have good hands. Remember Randall Williams, Macey Brooks, etc. Believe we kept those guys around for 2-3 years as well.

People, listen, because this is exactly right. Sure, we may be more explosive with another high caliber receiver, but we're just fine the way we are.

This team is as stacked as its been since 92-93.
Its natural to want more, greed is an inherit trait in all of us, but can often serve up a nice lesson in humility in the long run.
There are and will continue be weaknesses on every team in the NFL, its just the nature of the beast, and its actually a little amusing listening to some fans wish lists, like a kid at christmas preparing his list for Santa.
Well, Jerry Jones has been quite the generous Santa as of late, securing a solid core, and signing from within, and that will translae into a very formidable and stable competitive team for several years forward.
The addition of a high end WR would be icing on the cake, no doubt, but it would be almost glutenous in a sence.
If this team were to only aquire one more player, my vote would be someone a little more formidable behind Romo than Mr. Limp arm duck chunker.

We were fine with Crayton last year, I see no reason we won't have a top 5 offense again.

There is a reason Jones admitted having interest in another wr and he keeps sounding optimistic that Glenn will be back. He knows Dallas needs another WR. Not just because of age. Owens is not going to get better and Crayton doesn't scare anyone.

We were #2 or #3 in scoring and total offense last year yet the sky is falling because we are stuck with Crayton at #2 if Glenn can't play, just like last year.

The only way we get in trouble at WR is if TO gets hurt. Otherwise we go with what we have. If Jerry can add a vet (Boldin or Williams) that would be great.

What we really need is for someone to step up from the pack of mediocrity, and move into a solid threat at the number 2, not just another guy.
