If Vanderjaqt comes available (which looks like it could happen) Don't you think he would be a great pick up??

Yes it would be a great pickup, lets see what the asking price is going to be.

i doubt we get Vanderjaqt because not only may he be damaged goods but his kickoffs are sorry and i doubt parcells would waste a roster spot on somebody else just for kickoffs. plus he will probably wants lots of $$$$$

It would be a great pick-up. Reminds me of the Charles Haley signing. The niners had petty issues with Haley and they traded him to us for nothing. Vandy is a great kicker who has personal issues with his team for talking smack years ago. He is a talented player but I think a lot of teams would be more than happy to pick up his tab.

I'd take him over any of the other free agent or wannabe kickers off the street. I say this because I doubt that Viniaterri (sp) will become available because of NE most likely franchising him if anything.

Vanderjagt (sp) would be a great pick up for this team. We definitely would not have to blame the kicking game as our excuse for losing.

I'd rather have Ryan Longwell. He kickoffs. His completion % isn't as good as Vanderjagt's, but he's typically been around 85% kicking in the worst weather in the NFL, while Vanderjagt kicks in a dome. Also, while Vanderjagt is accurate from short distance, he doesn't have much of a leg. He has only kicked 1 kick over 50 yards in the past 3 years. Longwell has kicked 7.

And that missed Vanderjagt field goal last week was no fluke pull or slice. That was an outright choke.

And he's a better teammate without the drinking problem whispers.

Yeah If I had to choose between the 2 then I would choose Longwell.

I'm trying to think of a kicker that's choked a playoff game away, shrugged it off and went on to have as good or better season the next year.

Kickers are a rare breed. Success is 95% between the ears. Scott Norwood wa a pretty decent kicker before wide right sent his confidence to the toilet and his career to the sewer. Even Anderson was never the same after missing his first kick all year for the Vikings in the playoffs one year.

could'nt agree more. if you sign vandy you have to go out and find a new punter who can kick off. longwell does both and considering where he kicks he may be a better overlall kicker anyways. much easier kicking in a dome than in the cold of gb. and you don't have to find a new punter with longwell

Vandergajt has always kicked in the dome- but he still has half his games outside of it. He certainly is much better then what we have had. The bad news is that he turns 36 in march. You have to wonder when that is going to start being a factor- though kickers can last a long time. 87.5% overall; 14-21 from 50 and above.
Longwell is 81.6% overall; 13-22 at 50 and over. 4 years younger and kicks outdoor more often. Does kickoffs much better as well.
40-49 Van is much better; but then he was kicking indoors more.
Realistically I would go for Longwell first and then Vandergajt.

Jerry has always gone on the cheap when it comes to kickers and it's cost us game after game after game. I dunno why he can't get a decent, RELIABLE one to come here but for whatever reason they come and go year after year.
