We need a punt returner

I'd say we need a kick returner even worse.

...and a new special teams coach...

Well I feel like our kick returns have at least been about average, mostly getting back to the 20 if returning. And people still talk about DeCamillis as a head coach. But our punt returning is worthless unless it's Dez and with him you can mostly tell it isn't his focus.

Of course if we got a great kick returner, that could help a lot too. ST other than kicking was pretty blah this year.

We have one Dez. We do need a KR however.

Dez isn't going to do it much. Too talented and too big a part of the offense.

I'd be fine with Harris returning punts and kicks again next year.

We need a new ST coach more than anything.

DeCo and Campo can hit the bricks.

I don't think there's a more overrated position in the NFL, in today's game, than returner.

Since we don't have somone on our team named Peterson, Hester, Cobbs, or Cribbs, I'm not that concerned about the production...as long as whoever does it holds onto the ball.

we have dez bryant and he can be as good as any of those returns but obviously the coaches feel risk of injury is to high.

You generally don't see Pro Bowl type WR's returning punts regularly. Im sure alot of them would be great at it.. its just not worth the risk.

Free agent: Eddie Royal from Denver.

Replaces Laurent Robinson if we can't resign him and also returns punts. If we keep Laurent, Royal would be a great 4th.

Averaged over 16 yards per return in 2011. Returned one for a TD. Super speedy slot guy. Undervalued as a WR because he hasn't had a QB in years. Returns kickoffs too, but not great at it.

Great rookie year in 2008. Then Denver fires Shanahan in a surprise and throws away Jay Cutler to appease Josh McDaniels...who's fired less than 2 years later.

Only 25.

Roscoe Parrish

Eddie Royal

Or we could just use one of the better PRs in the league and let Dez do it.

I like Royal a lot.

But Dallas cannot afford to let Laurent walk.

I can say without a doubt that Laurent will not perform up to this years level on another team.

He won't. Sometimes things just click. Sometimes WRs just work with QBs.

Crayton hasn't done a single thing since leaving Dallas.

I can't see teams overpaying for Robinson because they realize the guy was on another team and didn't do anything and he may not be able to carry it over.

I don't buy it.

The Cardinals weren't scared to let Petersen return punts.

The Eagles let Jackson do it.

You are using the exception rather than the rule.

Baltimore: Lardarius Webb
Buffalo: Brad Smith, Justin Rogers
Cincinnati: Brandon Tate, Adam Jones
Cleveland: Joshua Cribbs
Denver: Eddie Royal
Houston: Jacoby Jones, Danieal Manning
Indianapolis: Joe Lefeged
Jacksonville: Deji Karim, Cecil Shorts
Kansas City: Dexter McCluster, Javier Arenas
Miami: Davone Bess, Clyde Gates
New England: Julian Edleman, Matt Slater
New York Jets: Joe McKnight, Jeremy Kerley
Oakland Raiders: Jacoby Ford
Pittsburgh: Antonio Brown
San Diego: Richard Goodman
Tennessee: Marc Mariani
Arizona: LaRod Stephens-Howling, Patrick Peterson
Atlanta: Eric Weems
Carolina: Armanti Edwards
Chicago: Devin Hester
Detroit: Stefan Logan
Green Bay: Randall Cobb
Minnesota: Percy Harvin, Greg Camarillo
New Orleans: Darren Sproles
New York Giants: Devin Thomas, Aaron Ross
Philadelphia: Dion Lewis, DeSean Jackson
St. Louis: Nick Miller
San Francisco: Tedd Ginn
Seattle: Leon Washington
Tampa Bay: Michael Spurlock
Washington: Brandon Banks

I bold-faced all the guys who are at least one of the top two RB/WR or top two DB on their teams. Not a whole lot of them.

It's not about injuries, but focus and practice time. Dez needs 100% focus on learning to be a WR.

Agreed, Cant risk Dez getting hurt....But that Kid from ArKansas looked pretty darn good returning kicks during this years Cotton Bowl

Punt returning looks to be more of a natural ability than any sort of learned skill.

It's not like practicing fielding punts would take up half of his time in practice.

Aaron Ross doesn't start?

Devin Hester doesn't play a significant role on offense?

And Adam Jones was returning kicks when he was a starter in Tennessee

McCluster started some games.....not sure if they took him off return duties when he took that role over.

Cromartie returned kicks for the Jets.

Fact is, it's not some unheard of notion to put a guy out there.
