We need an old, experience HC from the defensive side of the ball.

The plan is to develop Garrett as a HC. Mickey mentioned that most of the coordinators we lost came from the defensive side of the ball, but we lost our DC and kept our OC. We also added Jason Garrett. If we added someone from the offensive side of the ball, the team would be a little top heavy on offense and very inexperienced on defense. Adding someone from the defensive side would balance out the coaching staff. The new HC could mentor Garrett as future HC and Bowles as DC. Since Garrett will take over in a few years, an older guy would be our best bet. An older coach may not want to coach more than three years and will not be consistantly looking over his shoulder.

Wade Phillips is a possible candidate. He is an experience coach and is a wizard with the 3-4. Does anyone know which side Dan Reeves came from?

Offense. Reeves was a RB and then became a player coach under Landry. He has lead 2 different teams to SB including the Falcons, no easy task given the history of Alt.

Nope Rivera will be the man ...... and he will tutor a young DC .....

Jerry has all the time in the world for Garrett now that he has made him OC ..... noone will give him a head coaching job before Jerry does in about 10 years....

How do you figure that Rivera has the job? Other than he is the one you want?

When has Jerry showed this much patience hiring a coach? If Norv was his guy he would have already made the decision .....

I believe he is waititng to get his guy after the Superbowl ..... and the only viable candidate that is there would be Rivera ....

(disregard all this if he hires Norv tonight ..... :lmao:)

So this is a gut feeling? nothing more... I can respect that it just seemed since you have posted Rivera was going to be our next HC on different threads that you may have heard some rumor. So far I don't see where Rivera names is getting mentioned much at all.

I'd love to have Rivera as our next HC, but I don't see it happening. I also don't think Garrett will have to wait more than 3-4 before someone gives him a shot at being HC.

Yes ..... gut feeling ..... I just cannot see any other reason ,knowing how impatient JJ is, for him to have not announced it already if one of the candidates he has already interviewed was the guy he wanted .....

I am probably wrong ..... but Jerry has never went with the guy the Media thought he would pick .... he likes to suprise people .....

We will know if by Sunday we still have no head coach

The guy doesn't have to be old, just experienced. Ideal candidate would be someone with previous HC experience, modestly successful and has demonstrated enough ability to get the team to the next level.

I realize there aren't too many candidates who may not fit that criteria. But when delving into the coordinator positions, I'd still want someone who's reasonably experienced and has had some success at their position.

All the candidates have warts and so you don't have an exact match. I could understand Wade and Reeves. I don't understand attempting to go with guys like Singletary and Garrett, who are extremely short on experience. I don't understand how a guy like Norv, who's failed at every HC stop, and has only had success at the coordinator spot, can be considered.

Gary Gibbs came off as a flake. Not a good candidate.

The unfortunate thing is that anyone who's hired of the guys currently brought in, would have to be a hard sell to the fans.

What do you think about Jim Mora, Jr?

Jerry is still brining guys so the interview process is not over as of yet. I'm not surprised that Jerry is taking some time. I don't think that means the job is Rivera I think Jerry is looking at the different possibilities. Singletary will be into today and interview I’m guessing for both the HC and or DC job. If it is the DC job then chances are Norv will be named HC again only a guess on my part. Sorry to say my crystal ball is not working very well right now. :laugh2:

I would be "ok" with Norv as head coach if we had Singleterry and Garrett as DC and OC .....

Not my first choice though ..... and I think it would be a mistake .... but I will give the benefit of the doubt and support the staff.

He's a hard candidate to consider. He's had some success and I realize what he was working with wasn't the ideal situation. I never liked his offense in Atlanta though. His defense, which is his specialty, was decent.

But offensively, even working with Vick, there just wasn't enough consistency in what they were trying to do. Too many trial and error-type plays seem to be run.

Do I consider him a next-level HC? Not really. But because he's had some success to go with his mistakes, which I think he may have learned from some of them, I think he'll be a good HC. Just needs a better offensive staff.

I think there is a risk with any of the coaches who have came in for interview as well as a guy like Rivera. The one thing all of these guys have in their favor is a good core of players to work with. Hard part for all of these guys will be they will be expected to win right away there will be no rebuilding they are here to pick up where Parcells left off.
