We need another WR, but...

I think it depends on what you want. If all you want is someone to stretch the field with speed, you can get someone like that later in the draft. Believe it or not, receivers aren't that hard to come by.

I'm kind of interested in looking at one of the stud TEs that could fall. I know they wouldn't have the speed to beat everyone deep, but that player could be a great target and complete mismatch.

I just sort of look at how the Patriots do things. Their receivers aren't big name guys, but they get open and catch the ball, and their TEs make a lot of big plays for them.

you guys are too concerned about the WR position, you don't need to field a great WR corp, and you definitely don't need to worry about taking a WR in the 1st round

and we need to stay away from big WRs if we decided to look for a receiver, Stovall, Haas, because we need more WRs who can seperate from CBs ala Terry Glenn, esp. with our Line and Bledsoe at QB

why isn't anyone mentioning Greg Lee? he could be had in the 3rd round and has as much potential as any WR, and even in a down year, for him, he still managed to finish 5th in the nation with a 19.7 ypc average, and hauled in 7 TDs, just have to work on his hands is all

Not so fast, my friend.

Never say never.

Remember 2004 when everyone thought there was no Steven Jackson would fall to the Cowboys?

Not only was he available, so was every other halfback in the draft due to it being a down year for the position.

The same could happen at receiver this year.

I don't expect Holmes to drop to #18, but crazier things have happened.

I think you missed my point

I'm saying don't be so concerned about drafting a WR in the 1st round, esp. this draft class, great teams dont' need great receivers

You can find game breaker WRs in the later rounds....the 49ers do a GREAT job of that..I.E. Jerry Rice (the G.O.A.T) and Terrell Owens, like him or not.

I say don't bother with WR in this draft

I don't think we can sign a FA WR of any consequence either after A) the Peerless Price incident and B) the fact that to start, a FA would have to push one of two of BP's favorites off the starting roster C) to become even the third WR he'd have to compete with some of the best hands in the league and a guy who is on his way to becoming mr possession receiver.

I think we'd have to draft a guy who can return a few kicks yet has the talent to become starter material at WR, and probably a speedy, hands guy. That's why I like Santonio. We need more separation and deep balls. In an overall unexciting WR draft, Santonio is the only first day guy I like. If we wait until next year then fine, but we have to get someone in the next offseason or two. I also think Santonio represents the best value/impact for an 18th round pick if it comes down to him and a LB or OL.

I keep mentioning his name, but if you want a speed guy who can help you on special teams, then I like Skyler Green later in the draft.
