We need Ellis

There are several positives to having two first round picks. Use them both right where they are. Use one where it is, & trade down with the other one. I believe this team is so close to the Super Bowl, that we should use both picks to move up & take the best defensive player in the draft.

Sedrick Ellis is not only the most talented player at his position in the draft, but he is also at the most needed position of the Dallas Cowboys. Think about it for a moment. The most important & momentum changing drive in our playoff game against the Giants was the one right before half-time. We had just gone on a 20 play, 10 minute TD drive that took all the air out of the Giant's defense. All we had to do was keep them from scoring with 47 seconds to go on the clock. As we all painfully know, Manning & Co. didn't even need the whole 47 seconds to march down for a Touchdown!

There was little pressure on Manning, especially up the middle on that drive. Greg Ellis, I believe, jumped off-sides on a play that gave them third & short. We also had large holes in the secondary. This team looks pretty set on the outside on "D", but, with Fergi not knowing if he wants to come back, and Ratliff really not a true NT, we are really stuck w/Tank Johnson, who played like a backup last yr.

Sedrick Ellis won the DPOY in the PAC 10 2 times in a row! He also had 8.5 sacks, and a ton of TFLs last year. He is a stone wall against the run, and is quick enough to get up the middle on pass plays. Just look what he did at the Senior Bowl. The guy couldn't be stopped. He is just what this defense needs if we are going to take that next step.

I will say this....

A DL of Ratliff, Ellis, Canty.....

With Ware/Spencer from the edges.....looks pretty damn nasty.

I'd like to see the Cowboys use the 22nd pick on Felix Jones (and not because we're related) if he's available, then trade the 28th pick to Atlanta for their two second round choices. Here's my reasoning: Someone falls toward the end of the round that the Falcons covet, the deal is made and the Cowboys are still able to get their need areas filled, i.e., corner, receiver and perhaps, linebacker. Felix wants to play in Dallas!!

I so agree i mean ellis is a true NT and we play the 3-4. I dont think anybody realizes how important a NT is in a 3-4 ecspecially when we got pass rushers like ellis and ware that double team every play would be lethal. Look at all the 3-4 defenses alot of them have great NT's

Would never hold up against the run over 16 games.

It would get gashed for huge runs.

I was thinking the same idea yeaterday regarding a trade, although I would draft the top CB with the 22nd and then go for a WR and RB after the trade. I would be suprised to get two 2nd round picks, but maybe a 2nd and 3rd

1st- Antoine Cason (Arizona-CB)
2nd-Limas Sweed (Texas-WR)
2nd - Jamaal Charles (Texas-RB)
3rd - Dwight Lowery (San Jose State-CB)
3rd- Josh Barrett (Ariz St-SS)
4th- Owen Schmitt (W Vir-FB)
5th- Traded to move up in the 2nd
6th- Anthony Alridge (Houston-RB)
7th- Fernando Velasco (Georgia-C)

Dannyboy, the premise that I was going on is that the Falcons might be willing to pay more since they would want back into the first round, say to select a QB that had fallen to the Cowboys' pick. A repeat of a year ago when Cleveland came calling.

If the Cowboys were determined to move up, who would you go for?

Actually having a four man rush that could get to a quarterback could make a Jacque Reeves look much better.

I'd follow Cogan's advice and trade for S. Ellis.

Seems there are two reason to have 2 first round draft choices:

1. To yearly take advantage of desperate teams and acquire a second round draft choice.
2. To have 2 first round choices available to move up and get a special player.

Actually Miami could be a possibility as well since they have two 2nd round picks

I'd love to disagree with you but I can't. NT is a key position to Dallas' success on defense and Ellis would be a difference maker.

I don't see it happening, though.

During the senior bowl Mayock said he has Ellis over Dorsey even. I'm sure we have 0 chance of landing him. He absolutely dominated at the senior bowl

Two things wrong with that. One, the Falcons are a very bad team because they have a lot of bad football players. They know that the only way to improve is to draft as many good players as possible. They are much more likely to draft down than up. Second, according to the Trade Value Chart that many NFL teams use today, this would be an uneven trade, & the Falcons know it. Their two picks, #s 37 & 48 add up to 950 pts. The #28 pick of the Cowboys is only worth 660 pts. See what I mean?

If they would trade up, it would be with one of their seconds & a third, but I doubt it even then. They would still be losing two picks for one, and they won't do it.

I really don't understand why so many Cowboy fans think we NEED to grab a RB in the 1st rd. This is one of the deepest RB class in the last ten years. We can grab a quality back at #61 or even #92.

We NEED to improve our pass defense. A NT like Ellis would change the entire chemistry of the pass rush. His quickness for such a big man is close to DWare. He was so dominating at the Senior Bowl, it was incredible. Two sacks, 1 FF, & a Safety is pretty dominating.....and that was as he was getting double teamed constantly. As Parcells used to say, "There are only so many people like him on this planet. He's what you call a 'planet person'".
I still feel Ellis is worth the two picks.

Amen! Preach it brother! The NT is the foundation of a 3-4 defense. If we are going to play that way, then first we need to build a solid foundation with the best--Sedrick Ellis. Pressure from both ends it great. Adding pressure up in the QB's face is awesome.....and that's just what kind of defense we would have---awesome!
