We need Jay Toia to play well

We all hope Jay Toia develops into something. But it’s not fair to just expect a Day 3 long shot to be the magic bullet for a problem we’ve had in stopping the run for years.

Not saying Toia can’t be anything. But in the last 20 years, 74 DTs were drafted in the 7th round and approximately 4% ever become a multi-year starter. Conversely DTs taken on Day one and two have a near 40% chance. Because they are more talented. That simple.

Can it happen? Yes. Is it likely? No. Look I hope nothing but the best for Jay Toia. Hoping he’s part of the 4%!
I can't stand the truth

Tony siragusa had short arms, John jerkovich did too. They had long careers . The Goose was nothing special but did run stuffing very well. He found a niche and it served him well. I feel like at worst, we can do that with Rogers and Toia. There's value in guys that do the dirty work. We need a guy or two like this.

Chew glass guys!

waht players do we say "he can play bad, it ll be ok:"

its like saying "we gotta win to make the playoffs? Really? interesting inside scoop you have.

a player needs to play well, im going to have to invest in any books or podcasts you have good sir
This is what it comes to almost every off-season after the draft and free agency........ Jerry fails to aquire the best free agents that you can plug and play, so the fans start dreaming that late round players will turn into dominate players

Vaughn was gonna be Darren Sproles
Mafah is gonna be Derrick Henry
And Toia is to be the next Sapp or Suh

No wonder Stephen A Smith and the rest of NFL fans call this fanbase delusional and disgusting

We need him to play well. I have some hope that they will get something out of him. Dane Brugler had him ranked at 116. The Cowboys got him at 217. He should have gone somewhere in-between. Hopefully, Dane was right or close to it.
Good post, Toia looks like a good one he should be able to help these linebackers feast in this defense, that is good value where they picked him.Toia looks like a strong nose tackle, I hope we have found our one technique. Rogers also looks good maybe he can help in a rotation along with Mazi and the position becomes a strength.

Not a trade deal. That's the ticket.

Both guys(Rogers and Toia)are a better version of bohanna. Both are hustle players too . I feel like we might be ok at DT depending on how camp goes.

No love for Akingbesote...
Yeah, this guy looks like he could be a player, looks to have the right mentality to play in the trenches and he has some size to him .It would be nice if Dallas could hit on one of these late round D tackles. He sounds good in interviews and has some good film.

I have no faith in a 7th rounder being a big part of this team or even getting the chance to. Its Mazi or bust....or Justin Rogers.
Yeah with you, I can't imagine a 7th round pick being relied on as the key to anything. It would be a great surprise if he can add some solid rotational snaps and make the team.

He can do the job he is given...not All Pro.

Similar numbers can be said if every position.

I guess the solution is to just never draft beyond 1st round due to law of diminishing returns, eh?

DT is one of the toughest positions to transition to the pros from college. Don't expect much from a late rounder, whether he was projected to go a bit higher or not. Like others have said, for the 2025 season in particular, you have a better chance that Rogers gives you productive game snaps than Toia.

No but the solution is to supplement your roster enough pre draft to not be dependent upon hitting on late round picks. Toia contributing this season, or even making the roster should be viewed as a bonus, not addressing a need.
