We need Jay Toia to play well

I am sure fans of NE have Maye being the next Brady.
SF fans, as well fans on here, have Purdy being the next Joe Montana.

Love in GB, the next Brett or Aaron.
NYG had Daniel Jones as the next Eli. :muttley:

At least we may have a few thinking Brian could be the next Jimmy.
Right now, a lot closer than not. The improvements are there to be used and right now.

And like I've posted " he may very well be the next Vince Lombardi"

But in making all of these predictions we look to supporting facts.

I mean, do we really view the potential and ability of the Bears Ben Johnson the same as Schottenheimer?

I'm more than willing to wait and see but no further than that, but if others want to project greater things on to him, so be it.....
Oh I get what you are saying. I was getting saying all fans of all teams will think that way about players and coaches.
Just like for us, when TC starts.

Fans will over evaluate our own players, because off a few TC standouts. And claim we have depth so let's make trades.
And then it never, well, very rarely happens.

Just like they will say, our players will get poached from the PS. Then they don't, or again, very rarely.

Yeah, this guy looks like he could be a player, looks to have the right mentality to play in the trenches and he has some size to him .It would be nice if Dallas could hit on one of these late round D tackles. He sounds good in interviews and has some good film.
Actually I forgot about him. Your right. Could be a gem.

Yeah but Rogers isn't a rookie. He pretty much showed what Toia's ceiling is as far as this team goes.....
I don't know if Rogers' ceiling is the same as Toia. Toia was taken in the seventh round during a very strong draft year for DTs. Rogers was taken in the same round during a weaker year. I don't think we're comparing players of equal value.

However, I don't really care who helps us whether it's Rogers, Toia, Akingbesote, Daxon or Joe Smith the ice cream man.

Sorry, when I say ceiling, I meant as far as how much playing time he will get his rookie year. People are trying to say Toia is really a 4th or 5th round prospect but to this team he was a 7th and as a 7th I don't see him playing this year.

Yeah this is the biggest issue with hyping up year 1 late round picks. We do it every year and every single time fans a back tracking. Year 1 simply isnt a realistic time frame for a 7th round pick to make an impact. Toias goal right now is just to make the team and avoid the practice squad. If he can earn a role on goal line and short yardage packages hes doing a remarkable job as a rookie.

Instead we have too many fans that want to put it on these fringe roster guys to immediately fill holes, then they get bashed all during the year when they dont. Its OK to have reasonable expectations for players.
Happens every year at this time. Every year. Hype up someone we will never see again. John Ridgeway got hyped and was cut as a 5th rounder. You can argue if that was warranted or not but it just goes to show where this team is at with late round guys. Very hard to make teams. I'm thankful if a 7th rounder makes it to PS.

I mean come in year 1 and have an impact. Noah, Crayton and Ratliff weren’t day 1 guys. Well let me not say that because I honestly don’t remember lol. I remember Noah wasn’t. I don’t remember about Ratliff. I remember his dominance later on.
It's unrealistic for a 7th round player in year 1. Looks like Ratliff started contributing in year 2 and became a starter year 3.

If he gets some quality reps as a rotational player who helps stop the run and frees up the LBs and on occasion get some pocket pressure....that is a win for where he was drafted.

And that's kind of what I'm getting at. I think people think, ok, big guy can take on blocks, he will start. Not how it works at all. If he's a starter by year 3, I'm perfectly fine with that. That's a much realistic expectation.

Well. with Rogers, we chose to go with a veteran (Linval Joseph) instead of sticking with a rookie. So it depends on whether we go that path again. If not, someone from among Rogers, Toia, Akingbesote and Daxon is going to get playing time.

Wouldn't shock me if they find another Linvel Joseph type signing honestly. I can't see Eberflus saying his unit is fine with a 7th round rookie.
