We need Murray not to stall out of the gate

I better first half from Murray will make a huge difference in this game, and honestly for the rest of the season going forward.

Against the Giants we had very little 1st half success, but when Murray delivered in the 2nd half we really brought it to the Giants.

Arizona beat the Seahawks, and they don't have anything going on offense like we do. They have Larry Fitzgerald, but that's really the extent of their offensive weapons. They don't have a Romo, a Murray, and I'd take our receivers over theirs any day.

I'd also take our defense over theirs.

Prediction: Cowboys Victory

The offense started a brand new center after the first snap of the first game in the first half! What do you expect?

Once the game went on the oline adjusted a bit and then Murray did his thing.

Often times when a RB does not have good yardage in the first half relative to the second half, a knee-jerk reaction among analysts is to conclude that he had second half success only, or struggled to get things going in the first half.

That's a mistake! Often times, RBs have to keep pounding defenders in the first half to wear them out. So while the yards are coming harder in the first half, the stage for gaining those additional incremental yards in the second half is being set.

If by the time the second half comnes, the defense has been beaten down enough that more postive yards are gained by the RB in the second half, then the correct analytic conclusion is to say that both halves were successfull (i.e. the first half was succesfull in setting the stage for gaining those additional incremental yards in the second half, and the second half was sucessful because those additional incremental yards were actually gainined).

If you look at the Giants contest closely, you'll notice that this is exactly what happened with Murray. He pounded them in the first half, softened them up, and opened it up in the second halfd where the additional incremental yards were gained. Tehreofre both of his halves were successfull.

I see no reason why Murray won't do the same against Seattle.

Murray had success after we opened up the passing game.

The running game is typically better in the 2nd half. Also Ryan Cook got all the 1st tramnteps this week.. expect an improvement.

It's probably going to be tough early on running the ball in Seattle. What i like about this offense since Murray became the starter is we've consistently stuck with the running game and it has paid off for us later in games.

The easiest time to run the ball is in the 2nd half of games. It's too difficult to depend on running the ball well in the 1st half of games.

Seemed like once the passing game started to click, Murray did way better.

Either way, Murray does need to do well on the ground to help open up this offense which is what it will take to take it to the Seahawks defense.

DeMarco Murray 2011 splits

First quarter
43 attempts, 282 yards, 6.6 avg

Second quarter
42 attempts, 225 yards, 5.4 avg

Third quarter
42 attempts, 174 yards, 4.1 avg

Fourth quarter
34 attempts, 214 yards, 6.3 avg

Cut the malarkey.

My point wasn't why he came on strong in the second rather, that we needed him to have success early. Whether that has more to do with him or the center or the offensive line or the passing game... It doesn't matter. We simply need to run effectively from the start. The idea that we can't do that somehow is ridiculous.

The title makes it seem like it's DeMarco Murray's fault. :laugh2:

kind of an off topic question but it seems like most people were happy with the trade for ryan cook for a 7th round pick? (i think) but to be honest the only thing i know about him is that he played with the vikings before the dolphins. is he a good because he is better then arkin? or is he good because hes actually good?

Really. Block for him early and he won't "stall out of the gate".

Good? No. Better than what we had? Yes.

I've got two brothers. One's a Dolphins fan, the other's a Vikings fan. I'm kind of forced to follow those teams because they won't shut up about them. Cook's decent. The trade made sense for the position this team was in. What doesn't make sense is being in that position in the first place.

If a team decides you aren't going to run on them they can make that very very difficult. You run some and then go ok they are giving up this and that to stop the run. You make adjustments and then the defense has to change if you're successful. Then you go back to the run when you back them off the LOS and force them to play the pass more.

This is the reason why you see ebb and flow during a game more than people suddenly figure out how to block. Yes, you can wear a team down some but generally you make them overbalance for the pass then run the ball.

Running the ball doesn't make defenses tired, making first downs and sustaining drives makes defenses tired,,, which is what Romo and company did last week. If you can make first downs running the ball then it's a double whammy...

Seattle has a very stout run defense, and they had one of the best last year as well. Early success on the ground would be great to see, but I wouldn't count on it.

15th isn't one of the best... it's middle of the pack.

This, too. You just expend more energy on defense. This is why it's so important to have depth to platoon.
