2018 top priority..... drop that right kind of guy S and find 3-4 playmakers ( preferably 2 on each side of the ball ) via draft or free agency. Forget the building exclusively thru the draft.......it's not working

Otherwise, we may trail Eagles for years.....always thought they and the Giants were a 1200-yard RB away from contending every year. Seem the Eagles have figured it out. Only be a matter of time for the Giants.

Can't be afraid to take a chance monetarily on talented vets either in FA or trade. This is where the Cowboys are falling short of the direct competition. The team's current roster building approach only works when you're hitting grand slams at every draft. Clearly not the case here.

Need to get our current play makers the ball in a position to make plays.

Dez and Williams need to run more crossing routes so they can catch the ball on the move.

Need to get the backs involved a bit more in the passing game as well. Anything to help keep the chains moving.

Agree.

Focus on playmakers/Star-players more than need.

1 top tier free agent could make a huge impact on this team.

Even a couple of mid-tier FAs could make a world of difference but they have to find the right ones.

2017 free agents signed by other teams:
Dontari Poe 1-year, 8M
Zack Brown 1-year, 2.5M

Free agency is a powerful tool when used correctly to bolster the core of your team

Drafting is awesome ur it usually takes 2-4 years for players to develop....sometimes you don't have that time to waste

Colin Cowherd said that they Pats are doing just that - buy acquiring pro players

I’m not afraid of the Eagles as much past this season.

Yes they may have a franchise QB which is huge but look at the age and contract status of their players and get back to me. The Eagles haven’t really drafted well, they have a lot hinging on this season. They may be able to stretch their success to next season but after that, Wentz may be the next Andrew Luck.

Before you call me a massive homer, look at this Eagles friendly article.

http://www.nj.com/eagles/index.ssf/2017/05/a_look_at_the_eagles_2018_salary_cap_situation.html

The Eagles are actually over the cap next season so they will surely have to do something with a few of these names just to have some room. Alshon Jeffery and Blount are also a free agents. Yes, they could realistically get under the cap and maybe even bring Alshon back but after next season? Carson Wentz will have the power to negotiate, Darby and Ajayi will be free agents and the contracts they handed out for their defense will really be kicking in...and oh yeah, the nucleus of their defense will be on the wrong side of 30.

Could the Eagles start drafting better and stay atop of the NFC for the foreseeable future? Sure but they won’t be able to be as creative as they have been of late when/if their defense starts to decline and Wentz is making 200 million. This is assuming that the Eagles and Dolphins don’t have some kind of collusion contract written up.

Eagle, Giants and Commanders fans were probably making posts like this last season regarding our team...too much can change in the NFL from year to year to look too far in the future.

I love how the eagles signed like 10-12 FAs and traded for Ajayi, and somehow it's worked out for them.

Exactly ..your point here shows you can get a couple impact free agents with modest damage to the cap. This brings me to other problem with this coaching staff or FO. As rule they DO NOT like signing players with no previous connection to the team via coaching staff. It's killing the team coz we pass on some quality players who can make a huge difference as you mention.

They have improved at drafting the past few years, but signing free agents has been a struggle. They need to re-think their free agent process but that does not mean they need to spend excessively.

I understand what you're saying but it appears they have their CORE players locked up for at least the next couple years. Hell their D and OL have consistently been top 10, even before Wentz. Even their Wrs are now matching expectations. Kick in a top RB, they're going to be tough to beat for years.

This is my point....we don't have time azz around depending exclusively on the draft............

Thorton 1-year, 6M
Paea Partial-year, 2M
Carroll Partial-year, 4M

That would have paid for Poe and Brown.

It's a much about picking the correct free agents as it is spending money.

I think Garrett's brother is the guy that leads the Pro Player acquisitions.

I agree we need more playmakers. But, Garrett wants the right kind of guy. JJ wants to fill the stadium. He has the number one valued football team in the NFL at around 4.5 billion. JJ wants a coach who has the press conference after the game and says all the right things. JJ is all about his brand being competitive. You make the playoffs once in awhile, he is happy. He drafts people with injuries and hopes the player can overcome his injuries. They pick up guys off of the practice squads and gets them cheap. He didn't want to pay Leary or McClain, or Church. He wanted to draft Manziel. I am a Cowboy fan since the Staubach, Fitzgerald days, but until you get a coach in here with testicular fortitude, it will be up and down seasons with no hope of the Super Bowl.

Definitely at LB and Safety, our LBs are awful. On offense at TE and WR.

Their WRs aren’t locked up at all.

Their defense and their offensive line are getting older. As I said, they may be fine if they draft better but they aren’t built for long term success right now.

FO has the same mentality as the coaching staff. It’s all or nothing. They either throw pennies at FA or blow their load and screw themselves long term.

There is no denying this team needs playmakers everywhere.
