everyone keeps talking about the players we draft need charcater and good ol boys..... BS we need some nasty players that will intimidate the other team. I'm not saying I want a pacman jones but look at our history....

In the early 90's our O-Line was nasty, players hated being in a pile with them. Irvin while not a really nasty player he did use his hands better and more than almost anyone and DB's went into games with him thinking they had already lost. you can take it back to the 70's when we won our early SB's.

What do we have now? we don't have any intimidating players, really players know Roy hits hard but he's not intimidating because he's a "Nice" guy and they know he's going to keep it clean.... Heck T.O. isn't even Nasty he's a mouth and thats about all......

I'd like us to draft someone like Merriweather from the U he's a very good player with a nasty streak... I love Ware but Merriman has that nasty streak and now O-tackles go into games already giving up sacks to him before the game ever starts we need just a few players like that, and from what I've read Davis could be like that as well a player with a nasty streak......

I think clearly Colombo has a Nasty streak from some of stuff he showed on film last year.

Roy has a nasty streak on the field. The problem has been ever since Bill came on, he got more and more away from where he can be nasty.2003 and 2004 were good years for him, but 2005, since Bill fully implemented his 3-4, Roy pretty much has become not so valuable or big hitter or even sure tackler.

I think if Carpenter continues to improve as he has been, he can be the spark plug for the defense, as he did in Ohio St. But I still thinks, when Roy makes a big play, or rather Big hit, it almost instantly ignites the team, from what I have seen. And hopefully Wade Phillips will let him do that, as he has promised.

You want Merriweather... the guy that stomps on people with his cleats while their on the ground and defenseless?

Personally, I'd rather win games and be respected as a GOOD team instead of everyone viewing us as a dirty team that takes cheap shots at every opportunity.

There's a difference between being NASTY and being a freaking idiot thug. Being Nasty is an offensive lineman taking it to the DLineman rather than the other way around... kinda like what Colombo did to Julius Peppers.

You can be a nasty guy on the field but a great character guy off it........Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith both were nasty on the field...by nasty I mean you feared them, they went at you all game long, they broke your will to compete.....

Roy Williams is a character guy who put fear into people. Ware is a character guy who puts fear into people. Reggie White was a character guy who put fear into people...

But I see what you are saying...........I just dont want to trade a quality person off the field for a very nasty on field person who could end up being like PacMan Jones or Rae Carruth

I wouldn't want a Pacman or Carruth either... I like Merriweather he's a good player and yes he did what he did in that brawl with FIU... That was a all out brawl and when crap like that happens anything is possible with any player no matter how good their character is....

We need a Safety that when a player comes across the middle they know their going to get hit because the Safety isn't going to be out of position.... and since Woody left we haven't had that and woody had a nasty streak he'd hit ya even if you didn't catch the pass just for coming into his area... I agree BP tied our hands tooo much

That's Roy on Best Damn Sports Show Period. There's a part in there where he was talking about Plaxico trying to cheap shot him and stuff.

Roy got quite a few hits in on guys that were about to step outta bounds, QB's that were about to slide, guys going across the middle, and even guys that didn't catch the ball this past season. They weren't HUGE hits but it was enough to let the opponents know he was there. Hell he was fined for like 3 or 4 different hits this past season.

Hopefully he'll get back to the old Roy under Wade Phillips when Wade puts him in better position to play with Roy's natural abilities.

Roy might land the occasional big hit, but I'd hardly call him nasty.

The defense in general lacks passion and fire.

I agree, the whole team in general has been lacking this. The kind of player who comes on the field motor running fast, plays with intensity and fire and doesn't have a problem getting in others face to follow. A swagger about themselves, just think of E.Williams the way he would come to the line with that look on his face/intensity/swagger/passion. I think the late Reggie white would have told you about it.

I think a guy like Joey Porter would have did this team some good, especially on defense just from that stand point alone. I'm a believer in buidling through the draft so I'm happy in a way they didn't sign him but he's a good leader.

I'm curious to see what it looks like under Wade Phillips... can't wait for the 2007 season. The guys will have more freedom to play with instinct instead of being robots... I bet we'll see a big difference in the players.

I think we have two players that could be nasty, mean players... Canty and Spears... Ware just doesn't hit me as a player who you can look at and be intimidated by neither does Roy, or Carp. Newman maybe, he plays with attitude and we really need more of that on this team...

I wanted to sign Porter for this reason alone.

I hope so. Roy Williams has disappointed me as much as any player on the team in the last couple of years.

I still don't think he'll ever be "nasty" though.

I disagree those guys where not nasty they where tough players guys that played hard. Now you had guys that played with a mean streak (it is how I play sports) Ala Erik Williams a guy that will try to hit you so hard to make sure you do not get up. Not a guy who is taking a cheap shot while you are laying on the ground but a guy that will battle you the whole game and try to kick your arse. Deacon Jones with the headslap and Erick Williams with the club guys that brought it game in and game out. Guys that think if you can't handle it then get off the field

Leonard Davis says lots of nasty curses as DEs blow past him. Is that nasty enough?
