We need to get Romo out of the pocket

Don’t get me wrong, I would love our line to be respectable this year and afford our Captain plenty of time to make his reads in a warm, comfortable pocket--and I think they can. But Romo’s most dynamic and memorable big plays have come from outside. I think we need to find a way to get him a few opportunities to get outside the pocket in games (by design, not breakdown) and see if we can’t capitalize on one of his greatest strengths.

We've needed to do it since 2007. Parcells understood it, but it's not going to happen under Garrett.

He does make great plays out of the pocket but those plays come from breakdown not design.

Yes, and win it's not open, and he holds the ball a second or 2 longer, he can take the blind side hit.

Easier said than done, but I agree. Unless, of course, the interior protection is good enough that he's got the time in the pocket to make the plays he used to have to make by extending protection by rolling out. He's a pretty good pocket passer, too, if he's not getting hit in the teeth with pressure up the middle.

If he's out of the pocket he can simply throw it away, something he needs to do more. He held the ball way too long at times against the Giants. I don't fault him for wanting to make something happen, but he needs to add getting out of the pocket after so many ticks of the clock to his repertoire along with throwing the ball away if all else fails.

If Houston had Romo I think they would win the Superbowl. They may have already done it if he were there.

Our offense pretty much sucks though and we're just relying on someone making a play.

The defense dictates where the ball goes in our offense wayyyy too much.

The conclusion I've come to over the past 3-4 years is that Romo doesn't like to roll out.

I'm exactly the opposite. I want him safe in the pocket with solid blocking up front so that he has time to read the coverage, but I want him releasing the ball too quick for the Defense to get to him. The thing I liked best about Parcells was his philosophy of getting rid of the ball before the Defense had time to beat someone. When Tony has his eyes forward he makes great reads. When you leave the pocket it gives the Defense more time. I don't want that.

I trust romo more in the pocket and making reads than scurrying around trying to thow off one foot. Yeah, the protection might not be so good in the pocket, but to me, he's a bit safer in the pocket. And yes, a quick release lessens the chances for uncessary hits on the QB.

That's because Houston has drafted far better than Dallas the last 5 years. They actually have a plan when it comes to building and sustaining a quality offensive line-something that Jerry seems incapable of.

For the most part I agree, but when hes out of the pocket it not only gives the defense more time, but our receivers as well. I just think a few times during the game would be beneficial.

I've said it before, but Romo doesn't seem comfortable operating from within the pocket.

True but our O-line has not looked bad this year. Solid at worst.

It does give our receivers more time too, but it is time for them to improvise. I prefer a set route and assignment. More likely to move the chains.
